RINA is currently recruiting for an Americas Senior Environmental Consultant.

The Senior Environmental Consultant focuses on leading and overseeing the assessment and mitigation of environmental risks associated with energy, infrastructure, and industrial projects. They deliver permitting-related services, conduct environmental studies, environmental monitoring and modeling, compliance assessments, due diligence, and audits to evaluate compliance with IFC and IDB performance standards.

Key Accountabilities

Lead Environmental Impact Assessment Studies:

  •  Lead and oversee comprehensive environmental impact assessments for energy, infrastructure, and industrial projects, analyzing factors such as air quality, water resources, and biodiversity.
  •  Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise in conducting environmental studies to facilitate permitting and authorization processes, identifying potential risks and mitigation measures.

Environmental and Social Due Diligences, Studies, and Audits:

  •  Lead due diligence assessments to evaluate environmental and social risks associated with projects, ensuring thorough analysis and identification of potential impacts.
  • Oversee audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, social standards, and financial requirements, providing recommendations for improvement.

Analysis of Pollutant Dispersion and Deposition:

  •  Utilize advanced modeling techniques to simulate pollutant dispersion from energy facilities, evaluating potential impacts on air quality, water bodies, and soil.
  •  Lead assessments of deposition patterns and concentrations of pollutants to estimate environmental effects and risks, providing expert recommendations for mitigation.

Develop Tailored Mitigation Strategies:

  •  Lead the development of tailored mitigation strategies to address environmental and social risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  •  Collaborate closely with project teams to integrate mitigation measures into project plans and financing agreements, providing technical guidance and oversight.

Collaboration with Interdisciplinary Teams:

  •  Work closely with engineers, economists, legal advisors, and other professionals to analyze data and assess project feasibility, providing expert input on environmental considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
  •  Provide mentorship and guidance to junior consultants, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Prepare Comprehensive Reports:

  •  Lead the compilation and analysis of environmental data to prepare detailed reports for stakeholders, including investors, financiers, and regulatory authorities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
  •  Effectively communicate findings, risks, and mitigation strategies to support Project Financing activities and client decision-making processes.

Support Proposal Preparation and Client Liaison:

  •  Assist in preparing project proposals and financing documents, including environmental sections and risk assessments, providing expert input and guidance.
  •  Engage proactively with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and address environmental concerns during project development and financing negotiations, building strong client relationships.

International Travel and Site Visits:

  •  Tavel internationally as required to conduct site visits and assess environmental, health, safety, and social aspects of projects, providing expert oversight and guidance.
  •  Review and monitor environmental documentation, compliance measures, and project implementation on-site, ensuring adherence to environmental standards and requirements.

Project Management Support:

  •  Provide leadership and support for project management tasks, including monitoring budgets, schedules, and milestones, ensuring timely delivery of environmental deliverables and compliance with financing requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related engineering required. Master’s or Doctorate degree preferred
  • In-depth understanding and application of IFC and IDB Performance standards as well as ADB/EBRD/Equator Principles or other international Lenders’ Environmental, social, health and safety standards, in the context of infrastructure and/or energy sectors
  • At least 10 years’ mining or other industry sector work experience as well as 5+ years consulting experience.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish required. Portugues and French a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading comprehensive environmental impact assessments for energy, infrastructure, and industrial projects.
  • Proven experience in environmental assessment methodologies and compliance with project financing environmental and social standards. 
  • Expertise in utilizing advanced modeling techniques for the analysis of pollutant dispersion and deposition patterns.
