ESG & Sustainability
Sustainability is an integral part of our culture and business strategy
RINA, in respect of its business purpose, integrates a focus on sustainable development goals and ESG aspects in its strategy to anticipate global challenges and satisfy the needs of society. We are committed to promoting sustainability both through our internal operations, by adopting sustainable practices to reduce environmental impact and improve the well-being of our employees, and externally, by supporting our customers to grow sustainably.
We actively support the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact relating to human rights, labour standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption.
Since 2016, we have participated in Fondazione Sodalitas, the Italian partner of CSR Europe, as well as Transparency International and its Italian Business Integrity Forum working group, which supports voluntary anticorruption initiatives.
Moreover, in December 2020, we became members of Valore D, the first association of companies in Italy that promotes gender balance and an inclusive culture within organisations.
In 2023, the target set in RINA’s Carbon Neutral 23 project of 2021 to achieve carbon neutrality by 2023 was reached, and we also made our commitment to the Science Based Target initiative, with the aim of reducing our emissions of CO₂ and other climate-altering gases consistently with the indications of climate science.
RINA voluntarily publishes its Sustainability Report every year, an engaging overview of its concrete commitment towards a sustainable future.

Towards 100% renewable
Approximately 69% of our global electricity supply comes from renewable sources. Our goal is to purchase energy only from renewable sources, where available and the contract allows, by the end of 2032. In 2023, approximately 1,600 tons of CO2 were avoided globally thanks to the purchase of energy from renewable sources.
-
Our plastic-free projects
Our plastic-free project aims to eliminate single-use plastic within our sites, and we started a collaboration with Ogyre, the first global platform for the recovery of waste from the oceans.
-
Greener vehicles
We are committed to neutralize our carbon footprint thanks to a series of CO2 reduction initiatives, such as the renewal of our fleet of company vehicles with the progressive insertion of hybrid / electric cars.
-
DE&I, a characterizing value
The key objectives we are working on are: valorisation of women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), inclusion of women in leadership positions and affirmation of the value of inclusion in our corporate culture. During 2023 we obtained certification on gender equality (UNI/PdR 125:2022) for RINA S.p.A., RINA Services S.p.A., RINA Consulting S.p.A. and RINA Check s.r.l.
