RINA is currently recruiting for a Italy Junior Safety Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Viareggio, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
Mission
The Junior Safety Plan Approval Engineer supports the team in the review of safety-related plans and documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable maritime safety standards and client requirements. The role contributes to technical analyses and supports the resolution of minor design issues under the supervision of senior engineers.
Projects may include newbuildings, conversions, and vessels in service, including ships, yachts, and offshore units. #LI-MC1
Key Accountabilities
Safety Plan Review & Compliance Support:
You will assist in the detailed examination of technical drawings and documentation concerning fire protection systems, lifesaving appliances, and emergency safety arrangements. This involves verifying compliance with Classification Society Rules, Statutory Regulations, and International Conventions such as SOLAS, ISM, IMO, and MARPOL. Under guidance, you will help identify potential gaps and inconsistencies to ensure robust safety measures.
Design & Construction Phase Assistance:
Provide technical advice and support to clients during design and construction stages, focusing on safety, fire protection, and lifesaving equipment. Assist in detecting minor non-conformities and inconsistencies within safety arrangements. You will participate in the implementation and validation of approved safety solutions, ensuring practical and regulatory compliance aboard vessels.
Documentation & Technical Deliverables:
Gather and organise technical data relevant to safety plan approval activities. Assist in drafting comprehensive technical reports, safety assessments, and engineering drawings that document safety compliance and project progress.
Project Progress Documentation:
Facilitate the submission of accurate and timely documentation to regulatory authorities and classification societies to maintain project momentum and compliance status.
Site Activities & Inspections Support:
Participate in supervised site visits, inspections, and measurements. Assist senior engineers in onsite safety verification tasks and prepare detailed reports on findings and observations to support project decision-making.
Project Coordination & Task Management:
Support the monitoring and tracking of technical and financial progress within your assigned tasks. You will apply foundational project management principles to organize and manage straightforward activities, providing regular feedback to Project Managers and escalating issues as needed to ensure smooth project execution.
Risk Assessment & Safety Analysis Support:
Contribute to basic safety assessments and risk evaluations, supporting the review process by identifying minor improvements to safety documentation under the supervision of experienced engineers.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication:
Act as a supportive liaison in communications with contractors, shipyards, and internal teams to facilitate effective information flow. You will help bridge engineering and construction teams, fostering collaboration that advances project safety objectives.
Education
Qualifications
- 1/2 years of experience in maritime safety, safety plan evaluation, or safety-related projects.
- Basic knowledge of maritime safety regulations: SOLAS, ISM Code, IMO & MARPOL
- Familiarity with shipboard safety systems: Fire detection and suppression systems, Life-saving appliances and Emergency evacuation procedures
- Basic understanding of safety audit and inspection processes.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
- Willingness to learn and work under supervision
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work in a structured and team-oriented environment
- Time management and prioritization skills
- English and Italian knowledge
