RINA is currently recruiting for a Trieste Senior Marine Surveyor to join its office in Trieste, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles.The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities

  • Professional Expertise and Industry Leadership: Utilize comprehensive knowledge of maritime classification rules, statutory regulations, and industry trends to provide expert guidance. Stay informed about industry innovations and legislative updates, proactively suggesting enhancements to surveying methodologies and safety programs.
  • Inspection and Compliance Oversight: Conduct thorough surveys and inspections of classed vessels, offshore platforms, and marine assets to verify adherence to classification and statutory requirements. Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely technical reports documenting findings, ensuring transparency and reliability of information.
  • Project Planning and Coordination: Manage and coordinate all phases of surveying activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and quality control. Lead teams effectively, mentoring less experienced surveyors, and ensuring that all survey work meets stringent quality and procedural standards.
  • Client Engagement and Problem Resolution: Act as a primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong professional relationships. Resolve technical and operational challenges by applying your expertise and facilitating clear communication to surpass client expectations.
  • Training, Development, and Knowledge Sharing: Deliver expert training and guidance to junior surveyors and team members, contributing to their professional growth and enhancing overall team capabilities. Support continuous learning initiatives and knowledge dissemination within the department.
  • Quality Assurance and Ethical Practice: Maintain rigorous quality assurance protocols, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reliability in all survey outputs. Uphold the highest ethical standards, demonstrating integrity, fairness, and transparency across all professional activities.
  • Travel and Field Work: Be prepared to travel extensively (50%-75%) to conduct on-site surveys and inspections across various locations within the Mediterranean and Africa regions, adapting efficiently to diverse operational environments.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Surveyor, or at least 6 years’ relevant experience in engineering, inspection, or survey roles within an IACS member Classification Society.
  • Comprehensive understanding of RINA’s strategic technical focus and positioning within the marine sector.
  • Fluency in Italian and English, sufficient to communicate effectively in technical, classification, statutory, and client engagement contexts.
  • Proven ability to master RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and internal policies, including Safety Policies.
  • Strong aptitude in interpreting engineering plans, shipbuilding practices, and operational procedures relevant to maritime vessels and offshore structures.
  • Expertise in conducting new building surveys, including assessment of certified materials, construction compliance, and certification issuance.
  • Proficient in executing ship-in-service surveys, encompassing hull, machinery, and equipment inspections, repair verifications, conversions, and statutory certification processes.
  • Experience with Marine Management Systems audits and testing activities related to certification of service providers and manufacturers.
  • Depth of knowledge in ship engineering systems, machinery operation, and associated technical software tools.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary technical requirements for collaborative projects within a maritime classification environment.
