RINA is currently recruiting for a Trieste Junior Machinery Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Trieste, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
Mission
The Junior Machinery Plan Approval Engineer focuses on supporting the review and approval of machinery plans and drawings, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. The position is an entry-level opportunity for recent graduates to gain experience in marine engineering by assisting in the approval of new building and conversion/modification of existing vessels/ yachts. #LI-DC2
Key Accountabilities
- Support the review and approval process of machinery and related systems/plants drawings for ships, offshore units, and marine equipment in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations.
- Assist engineers/senior engineers in verifying compliance with applicable RINA rules, international conventions, and contractual requirements.
- Help identify and resolve issues related to conflicting design requirements and material standards.
- Provide assistance to clients and shipyards during the design and construction phase, under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in the elaboration of detailed marine engineering plan reviews, gaining exposure to industry standards and regulations.
- Support project documentation activities, including technical reports and engineering drawings.
- Assist in day-to-day engineering tasks, including data gathering, document submission, and coordination with internal teams.
- Participate in site visits and measurements under supervision to gain hands-on experience.
- Collaborate with project teams to learn project management concepts and contribute to assigned tasks.
- Develop an understanding of machinery system design, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.
Education
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of marine machinery systems, such as propulsion, auxiliary machinery, and power generation on vessels (academic exposure or internship experience preferred).
- Familiarity with international marine regulations and standards (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen interest in problem-solving and technical assessments.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with senior engineers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with CAD software is an advantage.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to learn and convey technical concepts effectively.
- Willingness to learn and develop expertise in the marine engineering field.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
