RINA is currently recruiting for a Trapani Junior Marine Surveyor to join its office in Trapani, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.​

Mission

The Junior Surveyor is to contribute to the organization's commitment to maritime safety, compliance, and excellence by applying knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Junior Surveyor supports the surveying team in performing routine inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and staying informed about evolving industry practices. #LI-DC2

Key Accountabilities

The Junior Marine Surveyor will undertake the following key responsibilities to support effective and compliant survey operations:

  • Professional Application: Execute assigned tasks with professionalism and accuracy, applying comprehensive understanding of classification society rules, statutory requirements, and recognized industry practices within the organisational framework.
  • Inspection and Reporting: Conduct thorough and systematic inspections of various maritime assets including classed ships, offshore platforms and marine structures, ensuring compliance with applicable classification and statutory regulations. Prepare detailed, timely and technically precise survey reports under the guidance of senior survey staff.
  • File Maintenance and Documentation: Maintain well-organised survey files and documentation, ensuring accuracy and currency to facilitate effective tracking and auditing of surveys within the scope of responsibility.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Stay abreast of recent developments in surveying techniques, maritime regulations and technological advancements. Actively participate in training programmes, workshops and mentoring opportunities to enhance skills and survey competency.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Recommend practical solutions to issues identified during surveys, consulting senior surveyors for guidance. Engage in collaborative problem-solving initiatives that improve survey processes and outcomes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work constructively within the surveying team and alongside other departments to foster a positive and cooperative work culture, contributing to collective success and knowledge sharing.
  • Quality and Compliance Assurance: Support adherence to established quality standards and procedures, assisting in quality assurance reviews and contributing to the maintenance of high professional standards in all surveying activities.
  • Client Interaction and Support: Engage with clients in a professional manner as directed, assisting more experienced surveyors in addressing client queries and resolving compliance issues effectively.
  • Ethical and Professional Conduct: Uphold the highest levels of integrity, transparency and fairness in all interactions and survey processes, reflecting RINA’s commitment to ethical excellence.

Through these accountabilities, the Junior Surveyor will build a strong foundation toward becoming a fully qualified surveyor, demonstrating increasing autonomy and technical expertise over time.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

To succeed in this Junior Marine Surveyor position, candidates should demonstrate the following qualifications and capabilities:

  • Proficiency in English commensurate with the requirements of classification, statutory certification, and related marine services, enabling clear communication and documentation.
  • Capability to develop and apply working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, procedural instructions and the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
  • Familiarity with interpreting engineering plans and a basic understanding of shipbuilding methodologies and ship operational processes.
  • Competence in conducting a variety of surveys including new building assessments, ship-in-service inspections, and testing activities. This includes assessing material suitability, ensuring compliance of hull, machinery and equipment with regulations, issuing certificates and reports, and monitoring corrective actions when required.
  • Understanding of maritime engineering systems and machinery to facilitate comprehensive evaluation during surveys.
  • Ability to utilise relevant computer software and technical programs applicable to survey duties and data management.
  • Awareness of interrelated technical disciplines involved in marine projects to support integrated group operations.

This role is open to candidates who have attained a Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering and who demonstrate a commitment to developing their surveyor expertise within RINA’s marine division.
