Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Leatherhead, Chippenham or Manchester offices, Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.

Responsibilities:

You will apply strong naval architectural foundations to ensure vessels meet the highest standards of safety, performance and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues ensuring that stability considerations are integrated into vessel design and project decision making.

  • Develop and update stability booklets, loading manuals, deadweight surveys, lightship checks and weight tracking.
  • Perform intact and damage stability calculations in accordance with IMO (SOLAS, 2008 IS Code), class society rules (DNV, LR, ABS, BV) and flag requirements.
  • Prepare class/flag submissions (incl. cross‑flooding, watertight integrity, escape routes, evacuation implications) and respond to comments.
  • Provide stability input to design teams during feasibility, concept and basic design phases.
  • Participate in dry‑dock and onboard surveys, performing measurements, inclining test support, and validation of as‑built conditions following Foreship’s site procedures, safety guidance and confidentiality rules.
  • Produce clear technical reports, booklets, regulatory matrices, and decision support documentation for clients and authorities.
  • Present stability assessments and advise shipyards/owners on compliance risks, margins, and operational limitations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • BEng/MEng/MSc in Naval Architecture (or equivalent).
  • 3-5 years professional experience in stability analysis for marine vessels (i.e. passenger, ferry, yacht, other large structured commercial or naval vessels).
  • Strong proficiency in stability tools (e.g., NAPA Loading/NAPA Stability or similar).
  • Familiarity with IMO codes (SOLAS, Load Line, IS Code), probabilistic damage stability, and class rule application.
  • Ability to produce clear, client ready documentation and communicate results effectively.
  • Prepared to travel for occasional surveys, trials, and yard support.
  • You must be a British citizen or have the right to work in the UK without employer sponsorship.
