RINA is currently recruiting for a Marine Surveyor / Plan Approval Engineer (Electrical) to join its office in Singapore within the South Asia Pacific Marine Division.
About the Role
You will be part of a team of marine surveyors under the RINA Singapore Marine office and plan approval engineers under RINA South Asia Pacific Plan Approval Centre, performing classification and statutory duties for vessels in RINA class.
This role includes:

Performing surveys on merchant ships, pleasure crafts and marine equipment;

Conducting plan approval activities (focusing on electrical systems and equipment) for newbuilding projects and ships in service;

Ensuring compliance with RINA Rules, international regulations and flag state requirements;

Liaising with shipowners, shipyards, designers and other maritime stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Surveyor:
-
Conduct classification and statutory surveys for ships in service or under construction
-
Carry out inspections on hull, machinery, safety systems, and marine equipment
-
Assess compliance with international regulations, class rules, and flag state requirements
-
Prepare clear, accurate, and timely survey reports
-
Interface with shipowners, shipyards, and flag administrations
Plan Approval Engineer (Electrical):
-
Review and approve electrical drawings and documents for new buildings and conversions
-
Ensure compliance with classification rules and applicable statutory codes (e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL)
-
Prepare clear, accurate, and timely approval or review letters
- Provide technical support and guidance to surveyors and clients

Participate in design discussions with shipyards and designers

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulatory and technical requirements
Requirements
-
Either:
-
a Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or relevant field; or
-
Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 1 as Marine Engineer Officer.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in electrical plan approval activities with a recognized classification society

Familiarity with IMO Conventions, Regulations and Classification Rules

Proficient in technical writing and verbal communication in English

Ability to work independently and travel as required

Prior experience as a class surveyor is optional but considered an advantage
