China Senior Hull Plan Approval Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a China Senior Hull Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Shanghai, China within the North Asia Marine Division.
Mission
This role focuses on performing detailed plan and design reviews, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met. Projects could include the approval of new building, conversion, and existing vessels and yachts.
Key Accountabilities
- Review and approve hull structural drawings of ships, offshore units, and marine equipment, in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations, for new buildings, ships in service, and ship’s conversions.
- Assist clients during the design and construction phase, providing guidance and support related to structural design.
- Resolve issues related to conflicting design requirements and material standards.
- Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed broad parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
- Oversee and manage day-to-day project elements, visit sites to take measurements.
- Ensure correct and up-to-date data is used and complete documentation is submitted to officials and other day-to-day duties.
- Review the project deliverables (technical reports, project performance documentations and engineering drawings, etc.).
- Review progress reports and take appropriate action to ensure requirements are met.
- Take ownership and responsibility over the financial progress of assigned tasks.
- Understand and apply project management concepts providing feedback to project manager, serve as reference for the escalation of issues.
- Manage simple and complex projects assigned applying project management concepts and techniques.
- Assess complex structural problems for internal/external clients to determine solutions.
- Answer complex contractor questions on behalf of the supervising engineer, and serve as liaisons between engineering and construction personnel.
Education
Qualifications

Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in hull design, shipbuilding, or marine engineering, with a focus on plan approval in a Class Society or shipbuilding environment.
- Experience in the review and approval of hull structural designs, stability calculations, and material selection, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Practical experience working with international maritime standards (SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.) and Class Society regulations.
- In-depth experience in the hull plan approval process, including structural integrity verification, load distribution, and strength calculations.

Technical Skills:
- Advanced understanding of ship hull design principles, structural components, and materials used in hull construction.
- Expertise in reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and stability calculations for hull structures to ensure compliance with design codes and Class Society standards.
- Proficiency in software tools commonly used in hull plan approval and structural analysis, such as AutoCAD, NAPA, ShipConstructor, or other naval architecture and engineering software.
- In-depth knowledge of materials used in hull construction, including steel grades, welding techniques, and corrosion protection methods.
