RINA is currently recruiting for a Yachting Hull and Stability Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Rotterdam/Gdansk within the North Europe Marine Division.

Mission

This role focuses on supporting the elaboration of detailed plan and design reviews for yachts, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met.

Typical activities could include the approval process for the certification of new building, conversion, and existing yachts.

In addition to this, the role will be involved in decarbonizations studies for large yachts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve hull structural drawings of small yachts (i.e. CE certification), pleasure / commercial yachts, and marine equipment, in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations, for new buildings, yachts in service, and yacht’s conversions.
  • Assist clients during the design and construction phase, providing guidance and support related to structural design.
  • Provide support for the elaboration of detailed marine engineering plan review, in compliance with applicable RINA rules, international conventions and contractual requirements.
  • Provide support for the resolution of issues related to conflicting design requirements and material standards.
  • Provide direct or indirect support to engineers or engineering teams by gathering data, submitting documentation to officials and other day-to-day duties.
  • Prepare the project deliverables (technical reports, project performance documentations and engineering drawings, etc.).
  • Understand and apply project management concepts providing feedback to project manager, serve as reference for the escalation of issues.
  • Manage simple projects assigned applying project management concepts and techniques.
  • Assess minor structural problems for internal/ external clients to determine solutions with minimal supervision.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Requirements/Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in yacht/ ship structural design, stability calculation, or classification society plan approval.
  • Strong knowledge of yacht/ ship structure, strength analysis, and material properties.
  • Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., RINA, DNV, ABS, BV, LR) and international regulations and conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, CSR, IACS URs, IMO codes).
  • Familiarity with key safety codes for large yachts.
  • Experience with plan approval procedures, including the review of drawings for compliance with class and statutory requirements.
  • -Proficiency in ship structural analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, FEMAP, MAESTRO, NAPA Steel) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aveva Marine, ShipConstructor) will be considered beneficial.
  • Understanding of finite element analysis (FEA), fatigue assessment, and buckling calculations.
  • Familiarity with welding standards, shipyard practices, and structural fabrication techniques.
  • A solid interest in decarbonization studies and overall understandings / interest in deepening the knowledge with regards to environmental emissions resulting from building and operating large yachts will be considered beneficial.
  • Great communication skills
  • Dutch and/or Polish languages knowledge would be an important advantage.
