RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway Junior Assessor to join its office in Rome, Italy within the Transport & Infrastructure Certification Division.

Mission

The Railway Junior Assessor plays a role focusing on delivering comprehensive safety assessment activities in the Metro and Railway signalling domain. This role involves meticulous execution of assessments and reporting to ensure compliance with stringent safety standards, contributing to the reliability and safety of railway projects both in Italy and internationally.

Key Accountabilities

  • Comprehensive Safety Assessment:
    Conduct thorough safety evaluations of railway and metro signalling projects ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
    Serve as the primary interface between clients and the assessment team, leading discussions to clarify project objectives, expectations, and safety criteria.
  • Delivery and Quality Assurance:
    Oversee the timely execution of safety assessment plans, ensuring that deliverables meet quality standards and client specifications.
  • Mentorship and Expertise Sharing:
    Provide guidance and training opportunities to junior assessors and team members, fostering skill development and knowledge enhancement within the safety assessment team.
  • Standards Compliance and Process Improvement:
    Ensure all assessment activities comply with internal procedures, accreditation requirements, current legislation, and international railway safety standards.
  • Feedback Integration and Enhancement:
    Analyze client feedback systematically to identify areas for process improvement and implement corrective actions to improve service delivery.
  • Project Coordination:
    Where applicable, manage assessment projects including scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking to facilitate smooth project completion.
  • Design Verification and Documentation Review:
    Perform detailed design verifications against reference standards, conduct structural and completeness checks, and rigorously review quality system documentation to ensure consistency and reliability.
    Additional responsibilities may include participating in risk analysis workshops, supporting certification audits, and contributing to the development of assessment methodologies.

Education

Master’s Degree in Electronic/TLC Engineering or Computer Science

Qualifications

- Deep interest in railway safety assessments, validation, or auditing within the railway industry.
- Familiarity with safety management systems (SMS), quality assurance methodologies, and certification processes within the railway sector.
- Solid understanding of CENELEC Safety Standards EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129 as well as associated certification and regulatory standards.
- Ability to critically evaluate technical railway systems and operational processes ensuring safety and performance standards are met.
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in writing structured technical reports and presenting complex information effectively.
- Knowledgeable in risk management, compliance assessment, and performance evaluation specific to railway signaling systems is preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to support project-related activities and client engagements.
