RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway Assessor to join its office in Rome, Italy within the Transport & Infrastructure Certification Division.
Mission
The Railway Signalling Senior Safety Assessor plays a role focusing on delivering comprehensive safety assessment activities in the Metro and railway signalling domain. This role involves meticulous execution of assessments and reporting to ensure compliance with stringent safety standards, contributing to the reliability and safety of rail infrastructure projects both in Italy and internationally.
As a valued member of the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) teams, the successful candidate will engage with embedded trackside and onboard signalling systems, ensuring robust evaluation under CENELEC standards EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129. This mission supports RINA's commitment to safety excellence and continuous improvement within the Transport & Infrastructure Certification division. #LI-MC1
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct thorough safety assessment activities tailored to railway and metro signalling projects, ensuring all evaluations align with relevant legislative and technical standards, thereby safeguarding system integrity and passenger safety.
- Serve as a key liaison between clients and internal assessment teams, facilitating clear and consistent communication to ensure all project requirements, timelines, and deliverables are well-defined and met.
- Oversee delivery assurance by managing assessment schedules meticulously, coordinating resources effectively, and mitigating any risks that could impact project success or result quality.
- Mentor assessors and team members by sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative environment conducive to knowledge exchange, professional growth, and adherence to best practices.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with internal procedures, accreditation frameworks, and international safety standards including EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129, contributing to the continuous enhancement of assessment protocols.
- Analyse client feedback comprehensively, identifying opportunities for refinement of services and promoting continuous improvement in safety assessment delivery and client satisfaction.
- Engage in project management tasks where applicable, including monitoring progress, coordinating cross-functional teams, and steering projects towards timely and successful completion while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Perform detailed design verification in accordance with reference standards, conducting structural and completeness checks on quality system documentation to guarantee readiness and conformity of signalling products and systems.
- Promote a proactive approach to safety culture by staying updated with evolving regulatory changes, emerging best practices, and technological advancements within railway signalling and safety domains.
Education
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electronic, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline is required to provide a strong foundation for safety assessment activities.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of demonstrable experience performing safety assessments, validations, and audits within the railway signalling or broader railway environment is essential for success in this role.
- In-depth understanding of railway systems design, operations, and maintenance, with a firm focus on regulatory compliance and safety standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129.
- Proven expertise in preparing detailed assessment reports and documentation that meet rigorous industry and certification criteria.
- Experience with safety management systems (SMS), quality assurance frameworks, and certification processes (including UIC and ERA standards) within the railway sector is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to evaluate technical documentation, infrastructure, and operational processes methodically and present findings clearly.
- Excellent communication skills demonstrated through the effective presentation of complex technical content to diverse stakeholders.
