RINA is currently recruiting for a Process Sustainability Engineer to join its office in Rome within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.

Mission

The Process Sustainability Engineer will play a pivotal role within RINA Consulting - CSM S.p.A., focusing on driving innovative solutions in Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis. This position involves delivering scientific and engineering consultancy services tailored to both industrial applications and scientific research projects, ensuring that sustainable practices are effectively integrated into processes. The role requires creativity in designing and developing novel methods and approaches that enhance sustainability and resource efficiency.

Key Accountabilities

As a Process Sustainability Engineer, you will be entrusted with a broad range of critical responsibilities to ensure project success and client satisfaction:

  • Lead comprehensive design and engineering consultancy activities throughout multiple project phases such as feasibility analysis, concept development, and prototype realization, ensuring alignment with overarching project goals.
  • Manage and supervise test campaigns from detailed planning through to final reporting, encompassing all aspects of sampling, laboratory testing, data analysis, and documentation to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Provide expert support in obsolescence management and handling change requests, facilitating smooth operational transitions and mitigating potential disruptions.
  • Contribute to environmental compliance programmes by ensuring all project activities adhere to relevant regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
  • Offer specialized consultancy services to cross-functional teams—including design, stress, quality assurance, and manufacturing—addressing inquiries related to materials and processes, and fostering continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate concessions and deviation requests thoroughly to determine their feasibility and impact on project integrity, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Establish and nurture productive collaborations with external partners such as academic institutions, material suppliers, and process technology providers in order to leverage collective expertise and resources.
  • Provide on-the-ground support for surface engineering projects, conducting regular site audits and engaging directly with clients to address needs promptly and effectively.
  • Coordinate with senior engineers to develop and maintain detailed project schedules, setting realistic milestones and monitoring deliverable timelines to ensure timely completion.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive project documentation including technical reports, performance analyses, engineering drawings, and other essential materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compile progress reports and present them in project meetings, clearly communicating key achievements, encountered challenges, and proposed action plans to project teams.
  • Uphold the principles of the company’s Quality Policy by implementing the Quality Management System rigorously within all tasks, demonstrating a strong commitment to quality assurance.

Education

Master’s Degree
Doctorate/PHD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Master’s Degree or Doctorate/PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A solid understanding of the physical chemistry underlying high-temperature processes is essential, alongside a practical attitude towards experimental laboratory and pilot-scale activities. Candidates with hands-on experience in process sustainability, particularly within Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis contexts, will be highly valued. Strong analytical skills, combined with the ability to operate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with external partners, are desirable. Proficiency in project management and familiarity with quality management systems further strengthen the candidate’s profile.
