RINA is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Designer of Integrated Technological and Sensor Systems to join its office in Roma within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.

Mission

We are looking for a  Mechanical-Mechatronic Designer with strong expertise in integrating mechanical systems with advanced sensors (optical, laser, etc.), electronic boards, and motion control solutions. The ideal candidate has at least three years of experience in the design and development of integrated technological systems incorporating advanced sensors and electronics. The workplace will be in Rome.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design and develop complex mechanical systems for advanced industrial applications (e.g. in-line quality inspection solutions of the products), with a focus on challenging environments requiring high precision, durability, and integration with electronics and sensors (optical, laser, thermal, etc.).
  • Independently define innovative design solutions ensuring compactness, robustness, and ease of integration with electronics and automation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (electronics, software, automation, and data science) to integrate servo-assisted systems, electric motors, and PLC-controlled motion.
  • Optimize designs to ensure compliance with requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), thermal management, vibration isolation, and environmental protection (IP rating, shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, corrosion).
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation (2D/3D drawings, material specifications and bills of materials).
  • Support in prototyping, testing, and industrialization phases, ensuring continuous improvement.

Education

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Studies

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with strong experience in sensors integrations.
  • Proven experience in designing mechanical systems for complex industrial environments, with a particular focus on quality inspection systems and advanced sensor technologies.
  • Knowledge of motion control systems (servo motors, actuators, etc.) and PLC programming basics.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks CATIA or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles and proficiency in structural sizing using analytical methods of structural mechanics and machine design. Nice to have: experience with FEM/CFD simulations for structural or thermal optimization.
  • Skills in design for additive manufacturing and traditional machining processes (CNC, molding, die casting, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in complex projects.
