RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Industrial Symbiosis and Circular Economy Consultant to join its office in ROME within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.
Mission
The Junior Industrial Symbiosis and Circular Economy Consultant supports the development of sustainable solutions by analyzing industrial processes, contributing to the identification of more efficient and sustainable alternatives, and assisting in the optimization of material and energy flows. The role provides technical and scientific support in industrial and research projects, learning how to integrate principles of sustainability, circular economy, and resource efficiency into operations.
Key Accountabilities
Technical Support in Project Design & Engineering
- Support preliminary analyses, feasibility studies, and data collection under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation, initial concepts, and draft sustainable solutions for processes, materials, and energy flows.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (design, quality, manufacturing) by providing basic technical information related to materials, processes, and sustainable alternatives.
Field & Laboratory Support
- Assist in testing activities, sampling, and data gathering in laboratory environments or pilot facilities.
- Support the planning of test campaigns and prepare preliminary reports based on collected results.
- Participate in site visits and technical audits, documenting observations, issues, and improvement opportunities.
Data Analysis & Documentation
- Analyze basic technical and environmental data to support evaluations of sustainability, process efficiency, or circularity impact.
- Contribute to drafting technical reports, presentations, and supporting materials for internal teams or clients.
- Assist in preparing project sheets, time plans, and tracking project deliverables.
Environmental Compliance & Change Management Support
- Support the collection and verification of information needed for environmental compliance, following regulations and senior team guidance.
- Assist with preliminary activities related to change requests and obsolescence management, documenting changes and assessing initial impacts.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Interaction
- Interact with suppliers, laboratories, universities, and technical partners to gather information, data, or materials for project activities.
- Ensure clear and timely communication with project teams and help monitor deadlines and deliverables.
Quality Support & Continuous Improvement
- Apply Quality Management System procedures in daily tasks.
- Participate in training sessions, internal reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Verify the completeness of documentation handled and propose small operational enhancements.

Education
Qualifications
'- 0–2 years of experience in R&D, laboratory work, process engineering, or industrial sustainability.
- Basic knowledge of material science, thermodynamics, or industrial processes.
- Familiarity with thermodynamic modeling tools or similar software is a plus.
- Interest in circular economy, industrial symbiosis, and sustainable processes.
- Analytical mindset, scientific curiosity, and structured problem-solving approach.
- Accuracy in data collection and documentation.
- Team-working attitude and good communication skills.
- Willingness to participate in on-site activities (audits, inspections, testing).
