RINA is currently recruiting for a Hardware Design Engineer to join its office in Rome within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.
Mission
The role focuses on contributing to preparing detailed project documentation, technical proposal, and participating in technical reviews with customers. The role has strong electronic background and is involved also in design of digital boards, managing high-speed signals, developing power management solutions, ensuring signal and power integrity, integration and testing laboratory activities.
Key Accountabilities
Documentation:
- Prepare comprehensive project documentation based on EUROCAE ED-80 (RTCA DO-254) lifecycle, including technical data packages, production packages, test requirements and test procedures;
- ensure all documentation meets industry standards and customer requirements;
- prepare technical proposals based on client technical specifications, gathering all the necessary information autonomously.
Hardware design:
- Design of digital boards based on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and microcontrollers;
- design of impedance-controlled boards for high-speed signal management and routing;
- design of power management and distribution boards;
- (Optional, positively evaluated) FPGA design and verification;
- (Optional, positively evaluated) Radio Frequency (RF) design.
Integration and testing:
- Perform integration and testing activities in a laboratory environment under the supervision of the Senior Hardware Engineer;
- conduct thorough testing to validate design performance and reliability.
Customer interaction:
- Present technical project reviews to customers, providing clear and concise explanations of design choices and progress;
- address customer enquiries and use the feedback to improve the documentation and the design.

Education
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical documentation and hardware design, preferably in aerospace applications;
- good knowledge and understanding of ED-80 (DO-254), with proficiency in the major concepts, processes and objectives, and modulation according to the design assurance level;
- understand the key requirements for the approval of airborne electronic hardware from certification authorities, and know-how to map ED-80 (DO-254) objectives to electronic hardware engineering practice;
- proficiency in designing digital boards with FPGA and microcontrollers;
- experience with impedance-controlled board design for high-speed signals;
- proficient in hardware simulation and analysis tools;
- (Optional) experience in FPGA synthesis (Verilog, VHDL) and FPGA simulation (ModelSim, VCS) is positively evaluated.
