RINA is currently recruiting for a Engineer -Mechanical & Hydrogen Laboratory to join its office in Rome within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.​

Mission

RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali is searching for a new resource to be introduced as Lab Engineer for the “Material Characterization Discipline”, with particularly focusing on the Mechanical and Hydrogen Testing laboratory. The Laboratory performs mechanical tests on specimens or medium-scale components or parts of components in their real dimensions, verifying their performance and operating limits, in real conditions of use, or forcing them to destruction to discover their mechanical limits or to characterize the materials (metals, polymers, composites, fibers, fabrics). The Laboratory works in the field of steel, oil & gas, power generation, aerospace & defense, automotive, additive manufacturing, construction and many other sectors. In recent years, the focus on hydrogen has become strong and, as part of the Hydra Project, which RINA designed with a view to energy transition and decarbonization of the steel production process, mechanical testing in hydrogen has become an object of the laboratory's activities. 

Key Accountabilities

- support in coordination of laboratory activities  

- supervision of test execution  

- post-test data analysis  

- drafting of test reports in accordance with standards and/or customer requests (also in English) 

- support in development of non-standard test procedures and methods  

- design and development of components for standard/non-standard tests  

- machines maintenance management  

- support in managing quality assurance and maintaining/obtaining certifications 

- procurement support (supplier identification, qualification, procurement of offers, receipt of materials)  

- support in management of lab logistics  

- collaboration with other team members to carry out the work and resolve problems. 

- availability to travel (also medium term)   

The new resource will respond to the head of the Material characterization discipline but he will be deeply introduced in the Laboratory, with internal training (on the job).

Education

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering

Qualifications

0-3 years of experience in mechanical laboratory activities, structural integrity assessment, fracture mechanics, fatigue testing, or material qualification.

Good knowledge of mechanical behavior and mechanisms affecting metallic materials under severe loading and hydrogen environments.

Experience with mechanical testing techniques including tensile testing, fracture toughness testing, fatigue crack growth, slow strain rate testing (SSRT), CTOD, J-integral evaluation, and large strain material characterization.

Familiarity with hydrogen-related testing methodologies and material qualification for hydrogen service is considered a plus.

Familiarity with industry standards and recommended practices (ASTM, ISO, ASME, API, EN, NACE).

Familiarity of laboratory instrumentation, mechanical testing systems, data acquisition systems, and post-processing techniques.

Familiarity with laboratory quality systems and accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO 17025).

Knowledge of metallurgy, fractography, and failure analysis techniques.

Familiarity with CAD and FEM tools is considered a plus.

Availability for business travel and on-site technical support activities.

Good technical English (written and spoken).

Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Compensation Data

The salary range and job grade for this position are defined based on objective, role-related criteria, and responsibilities in accordance with CCNL Metalmeccanico – Industria (CNEL code C011).

The gross annual salary range foreseen is between €30.000 and €35.000 and will be finally defined on candidate’s professional experience, qualifications, competencies, and overall alignment with the role.

The overall compensation package is complemented by the Company's welfare.
