LATAM Plan Approval Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a LATAM Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Rio de Janeiro within the Latin America Marine Division.

Mission

This role focuses on supporting the elaboration of detailed plan and design reviews, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met

Projects could include the approval of new building, conversion, and existing vessels and yachts. #LI-KM

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve drawings of ships, offshore units, and marine equipment in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations, for new buildings, ships in service, and conversions. 
  • Assist clients during the design and construction phases, providing guidance and support on technical matters in line with RINA Rules, international conventions, and contractual requirements. 
  • Support the resolution of issues related to conflicting design requirements, materials, and standards. 
  • Prepare project deliverables (technical reports, approval documentation, engineering drawings, etc.). 
  • Manage assigned tasks with ownership and accountability for technical quality, delivery, and financial progress. 
  • Support or manage simple projects applying project management concepts and techniques. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to facilitate the plan approval process and address technical concerns. 

Qualifications

  • Active CREA registration required.
  • 1 year of experience in the marine engineering field, particularly with maritime systems or in a technical consultancy environment.  
  • Solid understanding of regulations and standards (e.g., NORMAM, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class Rules) for ships  
  • Knowledge of plan approval processes within the maritime industry, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and international standards.  
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and clients to facilitate the approval process and address technical concerns.  
  • Proficiency in creating detailed reports and documentation, outlining compliance status, technical findings, and recommendations for approval.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 
  • Proactive attitude, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Familiarity with engineering software tools in each related area. 

 

For Hull / Stability background: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Engineering.
  • Experience in structural design, hull arrangements, or stability of ships or offshore units. 
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Method (FEM) and structural analysis tools or stability analysis tools (NAPA, Maxsurf, GHS, etc.) 
  • Understanding of classification rules for hull structure, stability, and materials. 
  • Knowledge of relevant international conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Line, etc.). 

 

For Machinery background: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with machinery systems on board ships, including propulsion, auxiliary systems, piping, HVAC, or control systems. 
  • Understanding of machinery arrangements and compliance with Class and Statutory requirements (SOLAS, MARPOL, NORMAM). 
  • Familiarity with P&ID review, system design evaluation, and mechanical components selection. 
  • Ability to assess system layouts and resolve technical issues related to machinery integration. 

 

For Electrical background: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with electrical and automation systems on ships, including power generation, distribution, and propulsion. 
  • Knowledge of Class and Statutory standards (SOLAS, MARPOL, IEC, NORMAM). 
  • Familiarity with electrical design tools and new technologies such as hybrid systems and battery management.
