RINA is currently recruiting for a Head of Brazil Marine Consulting Engineering to join its office in Rio de Janeiro within the Americas Marine Engineering Division.​

Mission

The Head of Engineering is responsible for the technical leadership, management, and development of the engineering organization across the Latin America Region. This role ensures that engineering resources are effectively allocated to projects, technical deliverables meet company quality standards, and engineering capabilities continue to grow in support of the business.

The Head of Engineering reports to the Americas Regional Director and works closely with the Head of Engineering North America and the Global Engineering Delivery Director to maintain engineering standards, quality, and consistency across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

1. Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and manage all engineering disciplines within the Latin America Region.
  • Hire, develop and mentor engineering personnel while fostering technical excellence.
  • Establish engineering priorities aligned with business objectives.
  • Build a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.

 

2. Resource Planning & Allocation

  • Plan and coordinate engineering resources across all projects, working with Foreship’s global team as needed.
  • Assign engineering personnel based on project requirements, workload, and technical expertise.
  • Monitor engineering utilization and proactively address resource constraints.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure projects are appropriately staffed.

 

3. Delivery Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on schedule and meet client expectations.
  • Review engineering performance and resolve technical challenges affecting project delivery.
  • Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes and project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality management systems.

 

4. Technical Excellence & Standards

  • Maintain engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Global Delivery Director to ensure consistency of engineering processes across regions.
  • Support the implementation of new engineering tools, technologies, and workflows.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous technical improvement.

 

5. Quotation Development & Commercial Support

  • Support the preparation and review of engineering quotations and proposals.
  • Validate engineering hours, staffing plans, schedules, and technical scope during proposal development.
  • Identify technical risks and resource requirements during the bidding process.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Project Management to ensure proposals are technically sound and commercially achievable.

 

6. Strategic Alignment & Business Support

  • Support business growth by ensuring engineering capability aligns with market opportunities.
  • Participate in strategic planning related to engineering services and technical capabilities.
  • Recommend investments in engineering resources, software, and training.
  • Monitor engineering KPIs and report performance to regional leadership.

 

7. Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Work closely with Project Management to support successful project execution.
  • Coordinate with Global Engineering and Delivery teams to share best practices and technical knowledge.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of engineering personnel.
  • Represent the engineering organization in regional leadership discussions.

 

8. Business Development

  • Collaborate with the Business Development Managers to grow and expand the business.
  • Participate in regional conferences
  • Travel, as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Postgraduate qualifications, such as a Master’s degree or MBA in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, are desirable.
Solid experience in marine engineering or relevant technical discipline or good experience with technical coordination of project teams.
Proven experience in engineering project delivery within marine, offshore, or related environments.
Experience in technical leadership or team coordination roles.
Solid understanding of engineering standards, regulatory frameworks, and classification requirements.
Exposure to business development and client interaction is an advantage.
Ability to operate effectively in a matrix organisation.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
