RINA is currently recruiting for a France Power Senior Consultant to join its office in Paris within the Power Engineering and Renewables Division.
Mission
The Senior Consultant will lead workstreams, contribute to grow the business and deliver technical assessments with specific focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for various stakeholders in the renewables industry. A key member of our growing Power (Renewables) team, the Senior Consultant, will support the team and contribute to grow the business unit and its revenue within the French-speaking countries, as well as within the international RINA team. The Senior Consultant will be able to provide consultancy services independently and with the guide and supervision of Principal Consultants. You’ll provide technical consulting services to lenders, investors and owners throughout the development, procurement, construction, and operations phases of BESS projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Represent RINA as a leading consultancy in ESS to the industry.
- Drive and secure new Power work, lead high-quality bids, and expand the client base.
- Act as Project Manager or Technical Project Manager to deliver ESS projects, including feasibility analyses, energy modelling, due diligence, procurement, construction support, and operational services.
- Integrate seamlessly with Power Systems and other relevant teams to ensure clients receive an integrated service.
- Network within RINA and external organizations, representing the company at industry events, conferences, and seminars.
- Support the management and mentoring of an effective team, ensuring team members reach their full potential.
- Collaborate with business functions to achieve shared objectives.
- Manage entire project scopes or specific project tasks.
- Assess client needs and translate them into designs, equipment, or new systems under consultant supervision.
- Oversee project timelines from concept through to completion.
- Plan technical solutions, resolving engineering challenges while meeting deadlines.
- Develop project schedules and deliverable timelines.
- Coordinate with project groups within Business Units on major projects.
- Oversee project production and performance, coordinating with the Principal Consultant.
- Ensure proper documentation, including assessments, surveys, project inception, and concept planning reports.
- Monitor engineering progress against budget and schedule forecasts.
- Manage multiple projects effectively, meeting conflicting deadlines.
- Prepare project estimates, budgets, schedules, and execution plans.
- Support junior personnel by providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Assist in technical competency development, supporting the Principal Consultant in training and growing expertise.
- Ensure all activities align with RINA’s Quality Management System (QMS), contributing to continuous improvement.
- Interact with clients and colleagues to meet project objectives, using appropriate technical judgment.
- Define and discuss client requirements, demonstrating a clear understanding in well-written technical reports and proposals.
- Actively support business development, building client relationships, and generating new business opportunities.
What are we looking for
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a relevant technical discipline.
- 6-8 years of experience in a relevant discipline (including postgraduate studies, if applicable).
- Fluency in French and English. Other language would be a plus (i.e. Spanish)
- Extensive experience in renewable energy and energy storage system (ESS) engineering.
- Proven track record in project management and successful project delivery.
- Previous consulting engineering experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong technical and commercial understanding of energy storage asset development, construction, operation, and financing.
- Experience in reviewing EPC/multi-contract agreements (O&M, grid connection, technical specifications, and contract negotiations).
- Review of civil, electrical, and structural designs, studies, permitting, grid, and health & safety (H&S) documentation.
- On-site experience with energy storage systems (e.g., PAC/FAC witnessing).
- Competitive proposal preparation for utility-scale BESS projects.
- Energy storage system tendering, including preparation of tender packs, bidder clarifications, and bid evaluations.
- Experience in energy project development.
- Electrical and power systems engineering experience, with a focus on renewable energy integration.
- Battery and other storage technologies, including chemistries, attributes, readiness levels, and use cases.
- Knowledge for high-voltage (HV) equipment and substation design principles.
- Relevant energy storage system (ESS) standards and compliance requirements.
- Energy storage testing, performance verification, and SCADA best practices.
- Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and transmission interconnection requirements.
- Procurement and evaluation methods, contract structures, and best practices.
- Market knowledge, including utility-scale battery energy storage system pricing.
- Planning application processes and regulatory requirements.
- Energy management systems for ESS and hybrid installations.
- ESS functional and financial modeling.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
