RINA is currently recruiting for a Olbia Marine Surveyor to join its office in Olbia, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

A Surveyor in a classification society plays a role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets. The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Vigilantly ensure all surveys and inspections are conducted in strict alignment with RINA's classification society directives, international maritime laws, and applicable statutory regulations. Proactively integrate new or updated regulations to maintain up-to-date compliance.
  • Technical Expertise and Advisory: Utilize deep technical knowledge in naval engineering and maritime operations to provide precise classification advice. Assist shipowners, manufacturers, and clients in understanding and implementing design, construction, and maintenance requirements.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve technical challenges encountered during inspections and throughout client interactions. Deliver pragmatic solutions ensuring operational safety and compliance.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous quality control protocols throughout all survey activities. Guarantee accuracy, reliability, and clarity in documentation and reports, leveraging digital tools for enhanced efficiency.
  • Client Education and Relationship Building: Foster transparent communication by explaining classification processes and the importance of compliance. Build trust through consistent support and knowledge sharing, enhancing client satisfaction and long-term collaboration.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports using standardized templates, ensuring consistency and timely delivery. Embrace innovative technologies for managing inspection records and enhancing traceability.
  • Collaboration and Team Engagement: Actively participate in interdisciplinary teams within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine division. Exchange technical insights and best practices to promote a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Commit to ongoing learning by pursuing relevant certifications and staying abreast of emerging maritime technologies and evolving standards. Apply new knowledge to enhance surveying practices.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Junior Surveyor role or at least 5 years in marine engineering, surveying, or related technical disciplines within the maritime sector or equivalent specialized industry.
  • Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering or a closely related field is required, providing a strong theoretical foundation in ship design, construction, and marine systems.
  • Proficiency in English sufficient to manage all aspects of classification, statutory certification, and technical reporting effectively.
  • Familiarity with RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and adherence to the RINA Employee Safety Policy; willingness to deepen practical knowledge in these areas.
  • Proven ability to interpret engineering plans and a fundamental understanding of shipbuilding processes and vessel operations.
  • Demonstrated competence in conducting new building surveys, in-service vessel inspections, marine management system audits, and certification of service suppliers and manufacturers according to applicable regulations.
  • Working knowledge of maritime engineering systems, machinery, and relevant computer programs or software essential for job responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, capability to assess safety standards, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions in line with industry best practices.
