RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway Senior System Engineer (ROS-SIG-TEL-UTO Expert) to join its office in Mumbai within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.
Mission
The Railway System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.
The successful candidate will be an expert in Rolling Stock, Signalling and Telecom for driverless railway systems. He will be the RINA team direct interface of the client, ensuring the effective point of contact with external stakeholders, collaborating with the other System Engineering Experts and Managers, by ensuring the technical leadership of the project for the successful integration of the systems involved in the development and construction of the whole railway system.
Key Accountabilities
A. Technical Leadership
- Expertise in Rolling Stock with particular competence in Unmanned Transportations Operations
- Expertise in Signalling and Telecom with particular competence in Unmanned Transportations Operations
- Experience in dealing with contractors subsystems, operators and assessors in driverless railway systems
B. System Design & Architecture
- Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply).
- Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects.
-Manage the interface development by the subsystems and coordinating the process of verification and validation of all interfaces during the life cycle of the project up to interface final successful closure
C. System Integration
- Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
- Validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g., EN, NFPA, UIC, ...).
D. Performance Optimization
- Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.
E. Verification & Validation
- Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws, …
- Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan
F. Lifecycle Management
- Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
- Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
G. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies
- Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.

Qualifications

Experience:

- Minimum of 15 years of experience in integration/system engineering for railway systems
- Experience in focusing on sustainability in Railway systems and infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
- Rolling Stock (Metro, UTO, EMUs)
- Signaling Systems (CBTC, ETCS, PTC, Interlocking)
- Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems)
- Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High-Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro)
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
- Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains).
- CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety)
- ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System)
- IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems)
- UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions)
- Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect
- Failure & Safety Analysis: ReliaSoft, FMECA, FTA Tools
- Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA
- Project Management & Lifecycle Management
- Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies.
- Managing large-scale railway system deployment projects.
