Junior Railway System Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Railway System Engineer to join its office in Mumbai within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.
Mission
The Junior Railway System Engineer supports the design, integration, and verification of railway systems, contributing to the development of safe, reliable, and efficient transport solutions.
Reporting to senior engineers, the role involves participation in national and international railway projects, assisting in activities spanning system design, interface management, and performance analysis across all lifecycle phases.
Key Accountabilities
System Design & Architecture
- Support the definition of system and subsystem requirements under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the development of system architectures and technical specifications.
- Assist in the analysis of subsystem interfaces (rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply).
- Participate in design reviews and document preparation.
System Integration
- Support integration activities between signaling, rolling stock, and infrastructure components.
- Assist in interface management and interoperability studies (e.g., ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC).
- Collect and analyze data for system configuration and integration validation.
- Participate in coordination meetings and technical discussions.
Performance Optimization
- Support performance assessment and simulations of railway systems (capacity, reliability, energy efficiency).
- Contribute to identifying improvement opportunities in system operations.
- Prepare technical reports and performance summaries.
Verification & Validation (V&V)
- Assist in preparing V&V plans and reports according to project requirements and standards (EN 50126/8/9).
- Participate in testing, commissioning, and validation activities on-site or in laboratory environments.
- Support documentation and traceability of verification results.
Lifecycle Management
- Contribute to configuration and requirements management activities.
- Support the preparation of technical documentation for maintenance, upgrades, and modifications.
- Participate in reviews of system performance during operational phases.
Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies
- Support digitalization activities (IoT, Data Analytics, Remote Monitoring).
- Contribute to data collection and analysis for predictive maintenance and performance monitoring.
- Assist in the exploration of new technologies such as Digital Twin or Smart Signaling under senior supervision.
Education
Qualifications
'-About 1-2 years experience in railway systems and subsystems and basic knwoledge in:
Rolling Stock: traction, braking, control systems
Signaling & Control: ETCS, CBTC, interlocking principles
Electrification: traction power supply concepts (25kV AC, 3kV DC, 750V DC)
Infrastructure: track systems and interface principles
- Understanding of Systems Engineering fundamentals (requirements, architecture, interfaces).
- Familiarity with CENELEC railway standards (EN 50126/8/9) is a plus.
- Experience or interest in tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving attitude.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Good command of English (spoken and written); other European languages are an advantage.
