RINA is currently recruiting for a Messina Marine Surveyor to join its office in Messina, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
Mission
A surveyor in a classification society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets.The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards. #LI-MC1
Key Accountabilities
- Regulatory Compliance: Rigorously enforce classification society rules and international statutory requirements during all phases of vessel survey and inspection. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulations and seamlessly integrate these changes into survey activities.
- Technical Expertise: Provide authoritative technical guidance on the design, construction, and maintenance of vessels to clients, shipowners, and manufacturers. Stay informed of industry innovations and emerging technologies to apply contemporary solutions in your assessments.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve technical challenges encountered during surveys or stakeholder engagements, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
- Quality Assurance: Implement comprehensive quality control measures during survey processes to guarantee the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of inspection results and reports, adhering to RINA’s high standards.
- Client Education and Communication: Effectively communicate the importance of compliance and classification procedures to clients, fostering mutual understanding of safety protocols and operational improvements.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and deliver detailed, clear, and timely inspection reports using standardized digital tools and templates, ensuring thorough documentation and easy accessibility.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Work cooperatively with internal teams and external partners to share best practices and expertise. Actively contribute to team meetings and initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Education
Qualifications
- A minimum of three years' experience as a Junior Surveyor or at least five years in engineering or survey roles within the marine or relevant industries, demonstrating progressively responsible experience.
- Proficient English language skills tailored to the requirements of classification, statutory certification, and communication with diverse stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, and statutory regulatory frameworks, along with adherence to internal safety policies.
- Ability to proficiently interpret engineering plans, shipbuilding processes, and operational procedures.
- Proven capability in performing various types of surveys including new building assessments, in-service inspections, marine management system audits, and certification of testing activities and suppliers.
- Solid understanding of ship engineering systems, machinery, and associated technical disciplines.
- Competency with relevant software tools and technical interfaces to support survey and reporting functions efficiently.
