RINA is currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical System Engineer to join its office in Sydney within the Power Engineering and Renewables Division.

Mission

The Principal Electrical System Engineer is focuses on leading and driving the design, development, and optimization of complex electrical power systems for diverse projects, ensuring the highest levels of reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. 

Key Accountabilities

1. Advanced Power System Design:
 - Lead and oversee the design, and optimize advanced electrical power systems tailored to meet the unique requirements of large-scale projects, critical infrastructure, and complex industrial applications.
 - Provide engineering guidance and use advanced engineering techniques to meet complex design criteria.
2 - Component Integration and Optimization:
 - Lead the evaluation, selection, and integration of state-of-the-art electrical components and technologies, including transformers, generators, protective relays, and advanced control systems, to optimize system efficiency and functionality.
 - Conduct thorough analysis and testing to validate component performance and ensure compatibility with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
3. System Modeling and Simulation Excellence:
 - Pioneer the development and application of advanced modeling and simulation techniques using industry-leading software tools such as ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent platforms.
 - Perform in-depth transient and steady-state analysis, dynamic stability studies, and fault analysis to validate system design and identify opportunities for optimization.
4. Technical Leadership and Documentation:
 - Provide expert guidance and oversight in the preparation of comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed specifications, calculations, and reports, to communicate design rationale, analysis results, and recommendations to stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
 - Mentor and coach junior or senior engineers to foster their professional growth and ensure adherence to best practices in electrical system engineering.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Coordination:
 - Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers, and clients, to facilitate seamless integration of electrical power systems into overall project designs.
 - Lead coordination efforts to resolve complex technical challenges and ensure alignment with project objectives, budgetary constraints, and timeline requirements.
6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
 - Drive innovation initiatives and continuous improvement efforts to enhance the performance, reliability, and sustainability of electrical power systems through the adoption of emerging technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices.
 - Foster a culture of excellence and technical excellence within the organization through knowledge sharing, professional development, and cross-functional collaboration.
7. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
 - Oversee compliance with regulatory standards, codes, and guidelines, including IEEE, NEC, NERC, and other relevant industry regulations, throughout the design, implementation, and operation phases of power system projects.
 - Mitigate risks associated with regulatory non-compliance, safety hazards, and operational vulnerabilities through proactive risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

Qualifications

 - Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in the design, analysis, and optimization of complex electrical power systems, preferably in critical infrastructure, energy utilities, or industrial sectors.
 - Proven track record of technical leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic engineering environment.
 - Proficiency in industry-standard simulation software tools (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink) and familiarity with advanced modeling techniques for power system analysis.
 - Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in electrical engineering, with a focus on safety, reliability, and sustainability.
