Heavy Lifting & Handling Superintendent
Marsa Matrouh, Egypt
RINA is looking for a Heavy Lifting & Handling Superintendent, to be involved in an important Oil&Gas project
Duration: 8 months extendible
Rotation: 42/14
Location: Marsa Matrouh. Egypt
Main responsabilities:
- Planning & Coordination
- Develop lift plans, including method statements, risk assessments, and schedules.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to align lifting activities with construction timelines.
- Select appropriate equipment (cranes, rigging, transporters) based on load requirements, site conditions, and gas plant specifications.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (OSHA, ANSI, LOLER) and site-specific regulations.
- Conduct hazard assessments for lifts involving hazardous areas or flammable materials common in gas plants.
- Ensure emergency response plans are in place for incidents like equipment failure or spills.
- Equipment Management
- Oversee inspection, maintenance, and certification of lifting equipment (e.g., cranes, slings, spreader bars).
- Verify equipment compatibility with gas plant environments (e.g., explosion-proof gear in hazardous zones).
- Manage equipment mobilization/demobilization, including logistics and storage.
- Supervision & Execution
- Direct lifting crews, riggers, and operators during critical lifts (e.g., installing reactors, columns, or pipelines).
- Monitor lift execution to ensure alignment with approved plans and intervene to resolve issues like unstable loads or obstructions.
- Supervise complex lifts, such as tandem crane operations or lifts near live gas pipelines.
- Training & Competency
- Ensure operators and riggers hold valid certifications and are trained for gas plant-specific challenges (e.g., working in confined spaces).
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings focused on risks like hydrogen sulfide exposure or high-pressure lines.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of lift permits, equipment inspections, incident reports, and daily logs.
- Report progress, incidents, and deviations to project leadership.
- Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate risks related to wind, ground stability, or overhead obstructions.
- Review lift plans for compliance with engineering specifications (e.g., load stress on gas plant structures).
- Cost Control
- Optimize equipment usage to minimize rental costs and downtime.
- Manage budgets for repairs, fuel, and specialized equipment (e.g., hydraulic gantries for modular installations).
- Stakeholder Communication
- Liaise with vendors, inspectors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with process engineers to avoid clashes during equipment installation.
- Environmental Stewardship
- Implement measures to prevent environmental damage (e.g., containing fluid leaks from cranes in sensitive areas).
