RINA is currently recruiting for a Philippines Marine Surveyor to join its office in Manila, Philippines within the Marine Asia Region Division.

Mission

A surveyor in a classification society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine structures. The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Technical Expertise:

    • Provide technical advice to clients and other stakeholders in coordination with the Head of Office.
    • Stay abreast of the latest industry technologies, innovations, and advancements to ensure the application of cutting-edge knowledge in surveys.
  2. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure strict adherence to classification society rules, international regulations, and statutory requirements during surveys and inspections.
    • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to interpret and apply new regulations as they arise.
  3. Problem-Solving:

    • Report to Head of Office any problems encountered before making the decision with in addressing technical issues and challenges that may arise during surveys or in the course of client interactions.
    • Provide practical and effective solutions to clients while maintaining compliance with classification standards with the approval from the line manager/s.
  4. Quality Assurance:

    • Implement quality assurance measures in survey processes to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in inspection reports.
    • Participate in internal quality audits and contribute to the continuous improvement of surveying procedures.
  5. Client Education:

    • Help to educate clients on classification society processes, rules, and the importance of compliance for safety and operational efficiency.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Follow and maintain standardized templates for inspection reports, ensuring consistency and clarity in reporting according to company standard procedure.
    • Integrate digital tools for efficient documentation management and reporting.
  7. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Collaborate with colleagues, both within the classification society and externally, to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
    • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  8. Continuous Professional Development:

    • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
    • Pursue relevant certifications or qualifications to enhance expertise.
  9. Ethical Conduct:

    • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

•    Minimum three (3) years' experience in the survey fields within the marine related industry or relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.  
•    Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services and, before assignment, with their future work.
•    Ability to understand engineering plans and have a basic knowledge of ship repair and/or shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
•    Ability to perform ship in service surveys:
−    to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been maintained in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory overall inspections, tests and trials,
−    to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a recommendation may be issued with an appropriate due date,
−    to follow-up as required by rules and regulations any repair work or due to previous outstanding recommendations,
−    to assess whether the deficiencies identified (if any) may be linked with potential failure of the Ship Management System,
−    to issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations and/or endorse certificates with authorization from Head of Office.
•    Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
•    Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
•    Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
