The Role
The Senior Consultant will be a member of the RINA Power System Engineering team and will contribute to the effective execution of engineering activities across projects and tenders, including definition and management of technical interfaces and scope of work associated with power system modeling / simulation projects.
The role involves leading and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a wide range of local and international projects for commercial, industrial, and utility clients.
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver power system study activities and projects.
- Experience preparing project proposals.
- Load flow analysis.
- Reactive power capability studies.
- Electrical loss calculations.
- Short‑circuit studies.
- Arc‑flash studies.
- Power quality analysis (harmonics, flicker, rapid voltage change).
- Stability studies for grid compliance.
- Insulation coordination (EMT), including TRV and ferro‑resonance.
- Protection coordination and arc‑flash studies.
- Techno‑economic assessments.
- Application of study results to system design, equipment specifications, and understanding of power system plant operation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- MSc or MEng with 10+ years of experience in electrical power,
or 7+ years with a master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. - Senior‑level proficiency in at least one of the following tools:
- Experience with grid‑connection applications for generation and load connections to transmission and distribution networks.
- Experience in grid integration of renewable energy sources and familiarity with relevant grid codes.
- Technical due diligence of power projects.
- Design and specification of substation equipment.
- Experience automating or scripting within power system analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of UK grid and distribution codes, including grid code compliance studies.
- Knowledge and experience with HVDC systems, including complex studies such as subsynchronous oscillations/interactions.
