Engineering Manager - Power Systems Design

RINA is looking for a highly experienced Engineering Manager to lead a specialist and growing Power Systems Consulting team, delivering complex Substation Design and Power Systems Studies engagements for large power and electricity corporations.
The portfolio is broad, advising clients on complex issues such a grid capacity/integration, high voltage power line design, site surveys, carbon capture and other sustainable engineering solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to futureproof, develop and shape RINA’s already established Power Systems capability in the UK, in a critical and transitioning sector.
This role is be based out of our Manchester office though RINA is smart/hybrid working organisation. Moderate travel across the UK is required though.
The Role
This is a hybrid role: you will manage both the established Power Systems Engineering team of circa 10x Consultants and be the technical lead/authority for Substation design and protection projects, managing a diverse range of UK and sometimes international projects.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead, inspire, manage and grow an experienced Power Systems Engineering team currently circa 10 Engineers.
- Set individual technical objectives; accountable for career development, coaching and mentoring.
- Manage resource, execution plans and project schedules efficiently – assign best team providing optimum value for the client.
- Manage and report team’s financial performance to RINA SMT.
- Be the Technical Lead for Substation Design client engagements from 11 kV to 400 kV.
- Produce detailed substation electrical design packages, compliant with national and international standards (i.e. ENA, BS, IEC, IEEE and ANSI).
- Review subcontractor designs, documentation and FAT plans.
- Conduct technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval/sign‑off for Protection & Control (P&C) and/or Primary design deliverables.
- Work with the Proposals team, contributing to tenders and RFQs.
Role Requirements:
- Engineering graduate with an Electrical Engineering background.
- At least 10 years’ Power Systems Engineering domain experience (3 years’ of which need to be aligned to UK projects).
- At least 5 year’s management experience, whether that be engineering management, team lead, project management, of teams between 5-20 Engineers.
- Retain a passion for technical delivery across the broad spectrum of Power Systems Engineering, predominantly Substation Design (11-400 KV), Grid integration, P&C and Power Systems Studies.
- Familiar with software packages including PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP and PSSE.
- Review and agree subcontractor designs.
- Be a qualified Substation Safety Lead.
- Experience of financial performance management.
- Multi-disciplinary management experience including subcontractor management.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken) and ability to establish credibility with senior internal and external stakeholders.

- Must be eligible to work within the UK without employer sponsorship and willing to commute or relocate to Manchester.
