RINA is currently recruiting for a Project Surveyor to join its office in Chicago, IL within the Energy Engineering Project Management Division.

Mission

The Project Surveyor is responsible for drafting survey and sub –division plats and technical specifications under the supervision of a senior team member, Project Manager, or Group Leader. The Project Surveyor oversees the technical work of one or more Staff Surveyor and is highly involved in the QA/QC process. Additionally, the Project Surveyor acts as the liaison between the Project Manager and Staff Surveyor relaying all important and relevant project information in an effective manner.


The Project Surveyor works cross-functionally and coordinates with others on larger, multi-discipline projects. The individual will oftentimes accompany the Project Manager on site visits and meetings with clients. The Project Surveyor participates in proposal writing (RFP’s), setting up project scopes, defining deliverables, monitoring schedules and budget costs. The Project Surveyor will be asked to provide recommendations and feedback to clients regularly.
 

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs site surveys, topographic mapping, construction staking, and boundary surveys for clients
  • Draft survey and sub-division plats and prepare descriptions of areas surveyed
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of engineering documents including plans, plats, deeds, and surveys
  • Perform and coordinate QA/QC of survey data, plats, and descriptions to ensure accuracy and completion in accordance with the project scope and appropriate guidelines and manuals
  • Coordinate with other engineers and support staff during preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements; responsible for integrating plans from multiple disciplines into an integrated and cohesive set of contract documents
  • Prepares proposals and ensures proposal protocol is followed; assist with project scope of work definition and estimating surveying hours
  • Oversee project costs and prepare data for client input
  • Review and certify completed survey work
  • Provide mentorship and training to surveying staff
  • Other duties as assigned
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or other closely related field of study
  • 4+ years of experience in land surveying
  • Survey Intern (SIT) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) certification preferred
  • Ability to use all survey equipment
  • Excellent oral and technical written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and other land development software to interpret and present information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

 

Sedentary work: exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer (fine motor skills, visual acuity) and frequent use of telephone (talking, hearing).

Working Conditions: The worker is required to occasionally work in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Additional environmental conditions may vary by job site.
