RINA is currently recruiting for a Traction Power System Engineer to join its office in Istanbul within the Civil Engineering Division.
Mission
As a Traction Power System Engineer, you will support the development, design, and implementation of traction power systems for rail projects. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will actively contribute to technical activities, documentation, stakeholder coordination, and detailed design tasks to ensure the successful execution of traction power projects. The role will focus particularly on the Overhead Catenary System (OCS), ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with technical and regulatory standards.

Key Accountabilities
1. System Design and Implementation:
- Assist in the development and design of traction power systems for rail projects.
- Develop design solutions for traction power supply systems, Overhead Catenary System (OCS) design, layout, and integration.
- Work closely with senior engineers to ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
2. Technical Authority:
- Support senior engineers by providing assistance in electrical power-related and traction power-related matters.
- Learn and develop expertise to contribute valuable insights to project teams.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
- Contribute to the generation of comprehensive reports on traction power system designs.
- Assist in maintaining clear and organized records of engineering activities and project documentation.
4. Stakeholder Coordination:
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including technology suppliers, railway infrastructure managers, operators, and third parties.
5. Detailed Design Activities:
- Participate in detailed design activities for traction power substations, including layout planning, cable sizing, earthing and bonding, and low-voltage protection calculations.
- Work under supervision to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
6. Client Collaboration:
- Support the review and analysis of client technical documentation and requirements.
- Learn to align project deliverables with client expectations under the guidance of senior engineers.
7. Technical Documentation Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation and review of technical documentation for Power Substation equipment and services.
- Learn and adhere to internal procedures and quality standards.
8. Coordination and Control:
- Collaborate with senior engineers to coordinate engineering activities with subcontractors.
- Assist in controlling subcontractors' documents and ensuring seamless collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
9. Testing and Commissioning Support:
- Participate in or support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to contribute to the successful commissioning of traction power systems.
10. Site Engineering Involvement:
- Provide support during the construction and commissioning phases.
- Learn to resolve issues and ensure the optimal functioning of traction power systems on-site.
Education
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in traction power systems, railway electrification, or power distribution projects.
- Experience in designing, testing, and maintaining traction power systems for railways, metros, or light rail transit (LRT).
- Familiarity with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power transmission and distribution.
- Understanding of traction power supply principles, including substations, transformers, rectifiers, and inverters.
- Experience with DC and AC electrification systems (750V/1500V/3000V DC, 15kV/25kV AC).
- Knowledge of traction power load flow, short-circuit analysis, and grounding systems.
- Familiarity with overhead catenary systems (OCS), third rail systems, and power distribution networks.
- Ability to analyze power quality, energy efficiency, and electrical safety aspects of railway systems.
- Experience with SCADA systems, relay protection, and power automation for traction networks.
- Familiarity with international railway electrification standards (EN 50163, IEC 61850, IEEE 80, IEEE 1653, UIC guidelines, etc.).
- Understanding of electrical safety regulations, earthing, insulation coordination, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in railway environments.
- Knowledge of RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) principles for traction power systems.
- Additional specialization in railway electrification, power systems, or high-voltage engineering is a plus.
