RINA is currently recruiting for a Ships in Service Senior Surveyor to join its office in Istanbul within the Marine South East Europe & MEA Region Division.
Mission
The Senior Surveyor serves as a seasoned and highly knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes.
Key Accountabilities
1. Professional Specialist:
- Acts as a professional specialist, applying in-depth knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts.
- Keeps abreast of new developments and recommends changes to surveying processes and safety programs.
2. Inspection and Reporting:
- Conducts routine surveys on classed ships, platforms, or marine structures to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements.
- Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys.
3. File Maintenance:
- Maintains survey files in an organized and up-to-date manner within the designated area of responsibility.
4. Leadership and Coordination:
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work.
- Monitors the quality of service, providing leadership and guidance to lower-level and less experienced surveyors.
5. Client Interaction:
- Engages with clients to solve problems within the area of expertise.
- Ensures client satisfaction through effective communication and resolution of issues.
7. Training and Development:
- Provides leadership, guidance, and training to lower-level and less experienced surveyors.
- Contributes to the development and improvement of the skills and knowledge of the surveying team.
8. Quality Assurance:
- Monitors work and projects performed by subordinate surveyors, ensuring the maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed.
9. Problem Resolution and Innovation:
- Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and initiates changes in working methods and procedures as necessary.
- Actively contributes to the development and enhancement of surveying practices.
10. Ethical Conduct:
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.
Education
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years experience working as a Surveyor.
• Understanding of RINA strategic technical positioning in the sector of the marine industry or minimum 7 years’ experience in the engineering or inspection/survey fields with an IACS member Classification Society.
• Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services and, before assignment, with their future work.
• Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to understand engineering plans and have a knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
• Ability to perform new building surveys:
− to assess the suitability of certified materials and products supplied for the new building,
− to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been built in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory inspections, tests and trials,
− to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a recommendation may be issued with an appropriate due date,
− to issue Certificates, Reports, Records and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
• Ability to perform ship in service surveys:
− to assess and follow-up the repair works to hull, machinery and equipment to assign a new period of Class and a new period of validity to statutory Certificates in compliance with rules and regulations by means of overall and close-up inspections, verification upon dismantling, tests and trials (including surveys for Admission to Class of ships in service),
− to attend major conversion works according with rules and regulations,
− to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a recommendation may be issued with an appropriate due date,
− to follow-up as required by rules and regulations any repair work or due to previous outstanding recommendations,
− to assess whether the deficiencies identified (if any) may be linked with potential failure of the Ship Management System,
− to issue Certificates, issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
• Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
