RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Railway System Engineer to join its office in Istanbul within the Project Engineering Division.​

Mission

The Senior Railway System Engineer leads the technical execution of complex and high-value railway projects, ensuring that all technical aspects are effectively integrated and aligned with project requirements.

The role provides strategic technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams, with responsibility for technical quality, compliance, system integration, and delivery.

The successful candidate will join the Railway System Engineering discipline and will be accountable for successful project delivery, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

System Technical Management & Integration

  • Lead system-level activities in compliance with EN 50126-1/-2, EN 50129, CSM-RA, and applicable National Rules.
  • Define and maintain the System Definition, including requirements, configuration, interfaces, V&V strategies, and O&M aspects.
  • Coordinate system activities supporting authorization for placing the system into service.
  • Ensure coherence and effective integration of all relevant subsystems.
  • Coordinate interfaces between subsystems, the System Integrator, and external stakeholders.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Manage testing and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate and oversee FAI and FAT activities for subsystems.
  • Coordinate on-site system validation activities, including SIAT and SAT.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute on-site system integration tests, including SIT and SPT.

Proposal & Technical Feasibility

  • Lead technical feasibility assessments for complex proposals, identifying key requirements, risks, and technical challenges.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary technical contributions to develop competitive solutions.
  • Define the technical resources, expertise, and timelines required for project delivery and estimation.

Technical Delivery

  • Oversee technical delivery, ensuring quality, compliance, and achievement of project milestones.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical issues and provide effective engineering solutions.
  • Monitor technical progress and adjust technical plans as required.

Technical Team Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams.
  • Coordinate technical activities and foster effective collaboration across engineers, technical teams, and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with the Discipline Manager on resource allocation and technical priorities.

Quality Control

  • Ensure that project deliverables meet required technical and quality standards.
  • Identify and address technical deviations and quality issues, implementing corrective actions in collaboration with relevant teams.

Education

Master’s Degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Transport, or equivalent). 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in railway systems engineering, covering multiple lifecycle phases, from concept and design through integration, commissioning, and operation.
  • Advanced expertise in at least one of the following domains, with a solid understanding of the others:
    • Rolling Stock Systems: traction, braking, TCMS, onboard ETCS/CBTC
    • Signaling & Train Control: ERTMS/ETCS, CBTC, PTC, interlocking
    • Power Supply & Electrification: 25kV AC, 3kV DC, 750V DC
    • Infrastructure & Track Systems: conventional, metro, light rail, high-speed rail
  • Strong knowledge of Systems Engineering and Integration methodologies, including the V-Model, requirements management, and interface control.
  • In-depth knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and related railway safety processes.
  • Experience with relevant engineering, RAMS, and simulation tools, such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, FMECA, FTA, ReliaSoft, MATLAB, Simulink, and CATIA.
  • Fluent in English and Turkish.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing client relationships.
