RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Railway System Assurance Engineer" to join its office in Turkyie within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.​

Mission

The Senior Railway System Engineer leads the System Assurance of the railway system. The role covers the design, integration, and validation of complex railway systems, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient transportation solutions in alignment with client and regulatory requirements.

The role requires the ability to work technically across multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the successful delivery of national and international railway programs.

The position combines deep system-level expertise with project management and mentoring responsibilities, ensuring that engineering outputs meet the highest quality, safety, and performance standards.

The successful candidate will join the Railway System Engineering discipline and will take the role of Senior System Assurance Engineer for an important international Metro project. The position will involve direct interaction with the client, initially working from the RINA Istanbul office and subsequently moving permanently on site (Romania) during the advanced project phases, through to the start of service, for about 2 years.

The Senior System Assurance Engineer will be accountable for ensuring successful project delivery, while mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

RAMS & System Assurance

  • Coordinate RAMS and System Assurance activities across project phases.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate system-level disciplines including EMC, Human Factors & Ergonomics, Fire Life Safety, Security, Cybersecurity, Earthing & Bonding, Electrical Risks, Authorization & Homologation.

Risk Management

  • Lead and review safety and risk assessments, including FMECA, FTA, and Event Tree Analysis.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans and hazard logs.

Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with clients, suppliers, operators, authorities, and project teams on system and safety matters.
  • Lead technical communication with Independent Assessors and relevant agencies.

System Design & Architecture

  • Lead system-level requirements, architecture, and interfaces across railway subsystems.
  • Ensure compliance with CENELEC, IEC, UIC, and other applicable standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and review engineering deliverables.

System Integration

  • Coordinate integration of key railway subsystems, including signaling, rolling stock, traction power, and telecom.
  • Manage interfaces and integration testing to ensure interoperability and technical coherence.
  • Lead the resolution of complex system and interface issues.

Performance Optimization

  • Monitor and optimize system performance, including capacity, RAMS, energy efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Lead technical studies and recommend corrective and preventive measures.

Verification & Validation

  • Define and manage the V&V strategy in line with applicable standards, including EN 50126/8/9.
  • Review verification plans, test procedures, and validation results.
  • Lead FAT/SAT and support commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate with safety assessors, notified bodies, and certification authorities.

Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee configuration, obsolescence, and system upgrade activities.
  • Ensure documentation and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support asset management, lifecycle cost evaluation, and modernization initiatives.

Education

Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in railway systems engineering, covering multiple lifecycle phases, from concept and design through integration, commissioning, and operation.
  • Advanced expertise in at least one of the following areas, with a solid understanding of the others:
    • Rolling Stock Systems: traction, braking, TCMS, onboard ETCS/CBTC
    • Signaling & Train Control: ERTMS/ETCS, CBTC, PTC, interlocking
    • Power Supply & Electrification: 25kV AC, 3kV DC, 750V DC
    • Infrastructure & Track Systems: conventional, metro, light rail, high-speed rail
  • Strong knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and RAMS processes.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering and integration methodologies, including the V-Model, requirements management, and interface control.
  • Experience with relevant engineering and RAMS tools, such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, FMECA, FTA, ReliaSoft, MATLAB, Simulink, and CATIA.
  • Fluent in English and Turkish; Romanian is considered a strong advantage.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing client relationships.
