Foreship (part of RINA)  is currently recruiting for a Structural Senior Project Engineer to join its office in Helsinki within the Marine Design & Engineering Division.

Mission

 

The Senior Project Engineer leads the technical execution of the most complex and high-value projects, ensuring that all technical aspects are seamlessly integrated to meet project requirements. This role provides strategic technical guidance and maintains oversight of multidisciplinary teams, proactively managing technical quality, compliance, and safety. Acting as a senior expert within the project team, the Senior Project Engineer is accountable for ensuring successful project delivery while mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement initiatives. #LI-DP1

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Lead structural engineering design for large-scale maritime projects, including ship newbuilds, conversions, or offshore units.
  • Prepare, review, and approve marine structural class designs, drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Perform complex structural calculations, ensuring compliance with classification society rules (e.g., RINA, ABS, DNV) and project specifications.
  • Manage and resolve complex technical issues, providing advanced solutions to achieve project objectives.
  • Mentor and develop junior/project engineers, offering technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and best practices.
  • Ensure quality control, risk management, and adherence to safety standards across all projects.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and verify implementation of designs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including naval architects, project engineers, and contractors, to ensure design integration and project success.
  • Support technical documentation, reports, and submissions to classification societies.
  • Communicate effectively with international teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in marine structural projects, including newbuilds and conversion projects.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale structural projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong expertise in marine structural class design and engineering, including preparation of class drawings, structural calculations, and adherence to classification society rules and marine structural codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant engineering tools is mandatory; experience with marine class calculation software is a plus.
  • Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to work independently while coordinating project teams and providing technical support.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in calculations, drawings, and structural documentation.
  • Fluency in English; good knowledge of Finnish or Swedish is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiar with project management software.
