RINA is currently recruiting for a Germany Marine Testing Surveyor to join its office in Hamburg within the North Europe Marine Division.

Mission

 

A Surveyor in a classification society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets. The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Survey various types of maritime equipment, heavy machinery, materials, and cargo handling equipment at manufacturers' facilities.
  • Conduct surveys and certification in accordance with RINA Classification Rules and/or statutory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with classification society rules, international regulations, and statutory requirements, applying new regulations as needed.
  • Provide expert technical advice on classification, design, construction, and maintenance while staying updated on industry advancements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and challenges during surveys or client interactions.
  • Produce accurate and concise reports, utilizing standardized templates and digital tools for clear, consistent, and timely reporting.
  • Report, communicate, and collaborate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Address client queries on a daily basis, providing prompt and knowledgeable support.
  • Uphold quality assurance measures to maintain accuracy and reliability in inspection reports.
  • Foster collaboration by sharing knowledge and best practices within the team.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, pursuing relevant certifications to stay current with industry standards.
  • Demonstrate a high level of effectiveness and commitment in all tasks.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in all survey processes.

 

What are we looking for

 

  • Formal qualification (B.Eng., M.Eng., or equivalent) in naval architecture, marine, mechanical, electrical engineering, metallurgy, or a similar field.
  • Certification as a welding engineer is considered an advantage.
  • 3 years of professional experience as a class surveyor, owner superintendent, shipyard quality control inspector, chief engineer on merchant ships, or in another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience as a surveyor in a Classification Society is highly valuable and a major advantage.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of hull, machinery, materials, equipment, and safety systems of ships.
  • Fluent in English and German, both spoken and written.
  • Proficient in MS Office and IT-literate.
  • Willing to travel frequently and hold a valid driving license.
  • Physically capable of working in confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres, extreme temperatures, and weather conditions, without conditions such as allergies, vertigo, or claustrophobia.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with strong conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Proactive and customer-focused approach.
