RINA is currently recruiting for a Germany Electrical Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Germany within the North Europe Marine Division.
Mission
This role focuses on the technical review and approval of electrical and automation drawings for ships, offshore units and marine equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable Class Rules, statutory regulations, international standards and contractual requirements. Projects may include new buildings, conversions and
ships in service, including yachts, where applicable.

Key Accountabilities
- Review and approve drawings and technical documentation related to electrical and automation systems on ships, offshore units and marine equipment, in compliance with Class Rules and statutory regulations, for new buildings, ships in service and ship conversions.
- Carry out plan approval activities for shipboard electrical systems, including, as applicable, power generation and distribution, switchboards, propulsion electrical systems, battery and energy storage systems, control and monitoring systems, automation, autonomous ship technology and cyber security related aspects.
- Assist clients during the design and construction phases, providing technical guidance and support related to electrical and automation systems on board ships.
- Support the elaboration of detailed marine engineering plan reviews, in compliance with applicable RINA Rules, international conventions, relevant standards and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to resolve design conflicts and technical issues identified during the plan approval process.
- Understand and apply project management concepts, providing feedback to the Project Manager and escalating technical or project-related issues when required.
- Manage assigned plan approval tasks and simple projects, applying project management concepts and techniques.
- Act as a technical interface with internal stakeholders, clients, designers, shipyards and contractors, answering technical questions within the assigned scope and ensuring clear follow-up of comments and deliverables.
- Prepare and issue technical review comments, approval letters, reports and other plan approval deliverables in a clear, structured and timely manner.
Education
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of work experience in marine electrical engineering within the maritime industry, such as Classification Societies, shipyards, design offices, shipowners, marine equipment manufacturers or technical consultancy environments.
- Previous experience at IACS Classification Societies will be considered an advantage.
- Solid understanding of electrical regulations and standards applicable to ships and maritime operations, such as IEC, IMO instruments and Classification Society Rules.
- Knowledge of electrical plan approval processes within the maritime industry and the ability to evaluate drawings and technical documentation for safety, compliance and technical feasibility.
- A solid understanding of electrical systems on board ships, such as generators, switchboards, power distribution, propulsion systems, automation/control systems and battery management systems.
- Ability to identify potential electrical system issues or areas of non-compliance during technical reviews and to propose clear, practical and rule-based comments.
- Familiarity with electrical design software and/or calculation/simulation tools used to assess electrical system performance will be considered an advantage.
- Proficiency in preparing detailed technical reports and documentation, including compliance status, technical findings and recommendations for approval.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and clients to facilitate the approval process and address technical concerns.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently; German language skills will be considered a plus.
- Ability to manage conflicts, discuss technical matters constructively and negotiate practical solutions with clients and stakeholders
