RINA is currently recruiting for a Sustainable Financing Mechanisms Engineer to join its office in Genoa (Italy) within the Sustainability and Business Innovation Division.​

Mission

Join the Sustainability and Business Innovation division at RINA Consulting S.p.A. as a Sustainable Financing Mechanisms Engineer. In this role, you will be an integral part of advancing sustainable finance through rigorous technical and economic analysis of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Your expertise will help ensure that sub-borrowers and financial institutions participate in environmentally responsible investments under green financing schemes, contributing meaningfully to the global sustainability agenda. #LI-AL2 

Key Accountabilities

Conduct In-Depth Technical Assessments and Eligibility Verifications

  • Perform comprehensive energy audits and use advanced analytical methods to calculate potential energy and resource savings, assessing both the technical feasibility and economic viability of proposed investments tailored to each project's unique aspects.
  • Ensure strict compliance with donor and programme criteria by meticulously screening investment proposals, verifying technical specifications, and confirming eligibility parameters.

Provide Expert Technical Advisory to Sub-Borrowers

  • Offer dedicated guidance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), industrial operators, and public or private organisations on effective investment planning, advising on optimal technology choices and defining eligible costs to maximize impact and compliance.
  • Assist in compiling comprehensive technical documentation required to support financing applications, including detailed energy efficiency improvement plans and precise investment fiches, ensuring transparency and reliability in all submissions.

Manage Documentation and Reporting with Accuracy

  • Prepare detailed technical assessment reports, energy savings calculations, and eligibility verification notes, presenting them clearly and professionally to financial institutions and relevant donors.
  • Participate in desk reviews and, where necessary, conduct site inspections under senior guidance to validate technical specifications and quality of installation works, ensuring projects meet the highest standards.

Support Proposal Development and Programme Innovation

  • Contribute your technical expertise to the development of funding proposals by designing robust methodologies for energy efficiency, identifying eligible technologies, and refining savings calculation frameworks to enhance programme relevance and impact.
  • Assist in drafting operational manuals, technical annexes, and eligibility documentation to support the launch and management of innovative sustainable financing schemes.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

Education and Professional Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. A Master's Degree in the same fields is highly desirable, reflecting strong technical foundations and analytical capabilities.
  • Have between 1 to 3 years of progressive experience working with energy efficiency initiatives, renewable energy projects, or conducting technical assessments specifically focused on green investments.
  • Demonstrate genuine interest in sustainable finance mechanisms, energy management systems such as ISO 50001, and the workings of donor-funded technical assistance programs.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Advanced proficiency in conducting energy audits and applying comprehensive savings calculation methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of diverse energy efficiency technologies encompassing building envelopes, HVAC systems, industrial processes, and renewable energy installations.
  • Competence with techno-economic assessment tools including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and payback period analysis complemented with data analytics proficiency using Excel and basic statistical software.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks such as EU Taxonomy, Energy Efficiency Directives, and green finance eligibility standards will be considered a strong asset.
