RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Site Accountant (Contabile di Cantiere senior) to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Civil Engineering Division.

Mission

The Senior Site Accountant (Contabile di Cantiere senior) is responsible for managing and monitoring all financial and accounting aspects of construction activities on-site. This role supports the Project Manager and Site Management team by tracking project costs, preparing work progress reports, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, quantity take-offs, and payment certifications. The technician ensures that all cost and accounting procedures are performed in line with company standards, contract requirements, and project schedules.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work Progress Accounting (S.A.L.):

    • Prepare and manage monthly work progress reports (Statements of Work Progress - SAL) based on site measurements and contractor reports.

    • Collaborate with site engineers and supervisors to validate quantities and progress.

    • Ensure timely certification and approval of works for payment.

  • Cost Control and Monitoring:

    • Track actual project costs against budgeted figures and report variances.

    • Maintain up-to-date records of committed, spent, and forecasted costs.

    • Identify cost deviations and recommend corrective actions.

  • Quantity Verification and Take-Offs:

    • Verify quantities of materials used and work performed on-site.

    • Support procurement and engineering teams by providing accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and site data.

  • Invoice and Documentation Management:

    • Process and review contractor and supplier invoices, ensuring alignment with project progress and contractual terms.

    • Maintain and archive cost-related documents, including delivery notes, work reports, and timesheets.

  • Subcontractor Administration: Monitor subcontractor performance from a cost and quantity standpoint. Support in the verification of subcontractor claims and variations.

  • Budget & Forecasting Support: Assist the Project Manager in developing budget updates and forecasts. Provide data and insights for financial planning and analysis.

  • Coordination and Reporting: Interface with central accounting, procurement, and project control teams. Prepare periodic cost control and financial status reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Compliance and Procedures: Ensure that all accounting and cost control activities adhere to company policies, contractual obligations, and relevant standards. Support audits and internal controls related to project cost tracking.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics or Civil Engineering

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, or related fields.

  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in construction cost control or site accounting roles.

  • Proficiency with MS Excel, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and project cost control tools.

  • Familiarity with measurement and billing procedures (particularly in line with FIDIC, NEC, or local contract types).

  • Experience working on construction sites and collaborating with technical staff.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of construction methodologies, quantity surveying, and contract management is highly desirable.
