RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Process Engineer - Categorie Protette to join its office in Genoa, Rozzano or Milan within the Plant Engineering Division.​

Mission

We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer, registered as a protected category candidate under Italian Law 68/99., who will lead and oversee process engineering activities within our energy projects. The Senior Process Engineer will play a key role in process design, optimization, and project execution, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our energy assets. #LI-MB4

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and execute process engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept studies to FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and operational support.
  • Develop and review key process engineering deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat & Material Balances, Process Datasheets, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Process Descriptions, and Operating Philosophies.
  • Perform and supervise process simulations, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, flare and relief system studies, and other process design analyses using industry-standard software tools.
  • Ensure all process engineering deliverables comply with project requirements, applicable codes and standards, company procedures, and client specifications.

Provide Technical Leadership and Expertise

  • Act as the technical focal point for process engineering within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior and intermediate process engineers.
  • Review, validate, and approve engineering calculations, design documents, and technical reports.
  • Support proposal preparation, scope definition, man-hour estimation, and technical bid evaluations.

Deliver Excellence in Energy Transition and Industrial Projects

  • Lead process engineering activities for projects related to Oil & Gas, LNG, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), Power Generation, and other energy transition initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions that enhance project value and operational performance.
  • Evaluate alternative technologies and process configurations to optimize safety, operability, efficiency, and lifecycle costs.

Process Optimization and Operational Support

  • Conduct process assessments, debottlenecking studies, troubleshooting activities, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support plant start-up, commissioning, performance testing, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, energy consumption, reliability, and environmental performance.

Ensure Process Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Integrate process safety principles into all engineering activities.
  • Participate in or lead HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and other risk assessment studies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable international standards, industry best practices, environmental regulations, and client requirements.
  • Support the development of safe and operable plant designs through the application of recognized engineering practices.

Collaborate with Stakeholders and Drive Project Delivery

  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary and international project teams.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, licensors, and external stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Provide clear and effective communication of engineering solutions, project risks, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and the development of engineering best practices across the organization.

Education

Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

Qualifications

- Mandatory requirement: Registered as a protected category candidate under Italian Law 68/99 (collocamento mirato)
- +8 years of experience in process engineering within the energy industry.
- Proven track record of leading process design and optimization projects from conception to completion.
- Strong technical expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS) and engineering tools.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certifications preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Good Italian communication skills and fluent in English languages

Compensation Data

The salary range and job grade for this position are defined based on objective, role-related criteria, and responsibilities in accordance with CCNL RINA (CNEL code I480).
The gross annual salary range foreseen is between €40,000 and €50,000 and will be finally defined on candidate’s professional experience, qualifications, competencies, and overall alignment with the role.  In addition, an annual variable compensation component is provided, based on both Company and individual performance objectives in accordance with the current policies and collective agreements. The overall compensation package is complemented by the Company's welfare.
