RINA is currently recruiting for a Rolling Stock System Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Naples or Rome within the Electronics and Systems Engineering Division.
Mission
The Rolling Stock System Engineer is responsible for the technical integration of various systems and components within a rail vehicle. This includes managing interfaces between subsystems, ensuring compliance with requirements, supporting system validation and verification, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
Key Accountabilities
- System Integration: Define and manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems onboard rolling stock.
- Requirements Management: Develop and track system-level requirements and ensure compliance with customer specifications and standards (e.g., EN50126/8/9, TSI).
- Design Coordination: Collaborate and review the activity of design, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure proper system implementation.
- Documentation: Create and review system architecture documents, interface control documents (ICDs), and functional specifications.
- Testing & Validation: Support and witness system-level testing, including functional testing, performance testing, and safety validation, both in labs and on track.
- Problem Solving: Assist and review resolutions of system issues during development, manufacturing, and operation phases.
- Compliance & Safety: Verify that systems adhere to railway industry regulations and safety standards.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a technical point of contact between engineering teams, suppliers, and clients.
Education
Qualifications
- Railway Engineering & Operations Knowledge: Proficiency in Rolling Stock (Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High-Speed Trains), On Board electrical/electronic equipment (HV, MV, LV components), Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking), Traction System, Braking System, HVAC System, TCMS, ecc…
- Systems Engineering & Integration: Familiar with systems engineering principles, electrical architecture, safety-critical systems, interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure. Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains).
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in configuration management, performance evaluation, verification, static and dynamic validation.
- Tools & Standards: Proficient in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS), international rolling stock standards (EN, UIC, TSI) and standards like EN50126, EN50128, EN50129.
