RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway Signalling Principal Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Civil Engineering Division.
Mission
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the definition, review, and approval of signalling system architectures (e.g., interlocking, ERTMS/ETCS, CBTC, train detection, ATP/ATO). #LI-AU5
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., CENELEC EN 50126/8/9).
- Act as Technical Authority for signalling across multiple projects, ensuring consistency of design, processes, and deliverables.
- Oversee hazard analysis, safety cases, and RAMS documentation for safety‑critical systems.

Direct and validate signalling design activities, from concept through detailed design and testing.

Provide expert oversight on system interfaces (e.g., rolling stock, telecoms, power, OCC/SCADA).

Lead configuration management and change control for signalling systems.

Support integration, testing, verification, and commissioning activities on site.

Support and lead the Railway Engineering Team in Technical Activities related to Railway and Metro Signalling Systems (e.g. Computer-Based Interlocking, Radio Block Center, …)

Work closely with other departments, such as civil (structural) and system design and Work Supervision, to ensure effective system integration and functionality.

Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Signalling Subsystems and their configuration or design or testing.

Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams with authority and clarity.

Effective collaboration with clients, suppliers, authorities, and certification entities.
- Passionate about Railway Technologies and Signalling Systems.
- Willingness to learn other subsystems.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in system architecture, functional safety, redundancy principles, and fail-safe design.
- In-depth knowledge of signalling (ETCS L1 and L2, CBTC, LRT) and system architectures.
- Proficiency with signalling standards, safety regulations, and CENELEC processes.
