RINA is currently recruiting for a Offshore Geotechnical Senior Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Rome, Milan - Italy within the Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division.
Mission
RINA is strengthening its offshore geotechnical engineering capability and is seeking a Senior Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to support the design and delivery of complex offshore infrastructure projects.
The role is focused on geotechnical design and site characterization for offshore foundations, subsea pipelines and marine structures, with direct involvement across concept selection, FEED and detailed design phases.
This position is suited to engineers with solid, hands-on offshore project experience, used to working at technical specialist level in multidisciplinary project teams.. #LI-MT3
Key Accountabilities
- Act as a geotechnical technical specialist for offshore and marine infrastructure projects, contributing to engineering decisions from early concept to detailed design
- Interpret offshore site investigation data, including CPTu, boreholes, laboratory testing and marine geophysical surveys, and define geotechnical design parameters considering static, cyclic and long-term loading conditions
- Design and assess offshore foundation systems such as piles, suction caissons, anchors, mudmats and gravity-based solutions
- Identify and assess offshore geohazards including seabed instability, liquefaction, shallow gas, slope failure and scour
- Support the planning and execution of offshore geotechnical site investigations, including review of specifications and supervision of data acquisition when required
- Review and technically check third-party geotechnical deliverables
- Prepare and review technical documentation, calculations and reports in compliance with international offshore standards
- Interface with clients and collaborate with structural, marine, geophysical and environmental specialists within multidisciplinary teams
- Flexible working arrangements combined with project-driven travel, reflecting the nature of offshore engineering activities
Education
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Proven geotechnical engineering experience, with substantial exposure to offshore or marine infrastructure projects
- Proven experience in offshore geotechnical design, beyond site investigation activities alone
- Strong knowledge of marine soil behaviour, including cyclic loading and long-term performance
- Experience in numerical modelling applied to offshore geotechnical problems
- Familiarity with international offshore standards (e.g. DNV, ISO, API)
- PhD is considered a plus but is not a requirement
