RINA is currently recruiting for a Naval Ships Surveyor to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Marine Special Ships Excellence Centre Division.

Mission

Naval  Ships Surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring that newbuilding military ships meet the necessary safety, design, and construction standards set by the classification society and international maritime regulations. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities

Ship Drawings Approval:
- Review and evaluate ship design and construction drawings submitted by shipyards, naval architects, and ship designers.
- Ensure compliance with classification society rules, international regulations (e.g., SOLAS - Safety of Life at Sea), and any specific military requirements.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for design improvements or modifications to meet safety and performance standards.
Classification Surveys:
- Conduct on-site inspections and surveys during various stages of ship construction, including keel laying, hull construction, outfitting, and testing phases.
- Verify that the shipyard is adhering to approved design plans and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality standards to guarantee the seaworthiness and reliability of the military ship.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay updated on the latest maritime regulations, classification society rules, and military shipbuilding standards.
- Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to ensure the military ship's compliance with international and national standards.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with shipyards, design teams, and other stakeholders to address design issues, resolve discrepancies, and facilitate the approval process.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other professionals involved in the shipbuilding process.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of all approval activities, survey findings, and correspondence with stakeholders.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on survey results, identifying any non-compliance issues and recommending corrective actions.
Risk Assessment:
- Evaluate potential risks associated with the ship's design and construction, proposing mitigation strategies as needed.
Professional Development:
- Stay abreast of advancements in naval architecture, marine engineering, and shipbuilding technologies through continuous learning and professional development activities.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

- 1 year of experience in naval engineering, preferably with a focus on military vessels or defense-related projects.
- Knowledge of naval architecture, shipbuilding, and marine engineering principles.
- Understanding of military vessel regulations and standards, including defense sector-specific requirements.
- Experience in conducting technical assessments, reviewing vessel systems, and ensuring compliance with relevant classification rules.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and provide detailed findings and recommendations for military vessel design, maintenance, and certification.
- Familiarity with surveying techniques and inspections in the context of naval vessels.
- Strong problem-solving skills for addressing technical challenges in military vessel operations and systems.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interact with military stakeholders and collaborate with senior engineers and naval architects.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in the defense sector, ensuring military vessels operate in compliance with industry safety requirements.
