RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Environmental/OHS Consultant to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Sustainability and Business Innovation Division.
Mission
The Junior Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Environmental Consultant will support the delivery of advisory services focused on occupational health and safety and, to a lesser extent, environmental compliance. The consultant will assist international clients in aligning with the environmental and social standards of development banks (e.g., World Bank, EBRD) in the context of infrastructure and energy projects, particularly those involving project financing. The role is ideal for recent graduates in scientific disciplines seeking to grow in a dynamic, international consultancy environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Support OHS Audits in Line with International Standards: Assist in the preparation and execution of health and safety audits in accordance with IFC Performance Standard 4 and EBRD Performance Requirement 4.Review and monitor workplace safety practices and documentation on client sites.
- Support Environmental and Social Due Diligences: Contribute to due diligence assignments by gathering data, conducting desk reviews, and supporting the identification of risks and non-compliance issues.Assist senior staff in evaluating project alignment with international lenders’ requirements (e.g., IFC, EBRD, Equator Principles).
- Assist in Project Documentation and Compliance Analysis: Help compile and organize health, safety, and environmental documentation.Contribute to gap analyses and compliance matrices against applicable E&S standards.
- Client Support and Communication: Participate in client meetings to gather data and provide updates on project activities.Maintain clear records and assist in drafting summary reports and presentations.
- Field Work and Site Assessments: Participate in field visits to construction or operational sites to support inspections and assessments of occupational health and safety performance.Document observations and support the evaluation of working conditions and risk controls.
- Support to Senior Consultants and Project Teams: Work under the guidance of senior consultants to contribute to multidisciplinary teams working on project financing mandates.Learn to navigate complex international ESG frameworks through real-world application.
Education
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related fields).
- Master’s Degree or relevant coursework in occupational health and safety or environmental management is a plus.
- Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and/or EBRD Performance Requirements (particularly PR4) is a strong asset.
- Basic knowledge of international ESG frameworks applied to project finance.
- Initial exposure (e.g., through internships, academic projects, or thesis work) to occupational health and safety concepts and risk management.
- Background or interest in environmental topics such as environmental due diligence, environmental impact assessments, or compliance is preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Italian is a plus.
- Willingness to travel for short site visits domestically and internationally.
