RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Biodiversity & Ecosystem Consultant to join its office in Genoa, Rome or Milan, Italy within the Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division.
Mission
The Junior Biodiversity Consultant supports the assessment and management of biodiversity impacts associated with industrial projects, within complex and multidisciplinary projects. Under the guidance of senior staff, they assist in identifying, evaluating, and implementing strategies to mitigate and manage impacts, developing strategies to achieve no net loss , as well as ensuring projects comply with biodiversity performance standards (EU Directives and/or IFIs standards). This role provides valuable hands-on experience and professional development opportunities in the field of environmental engineering and biodiversity management.
Key Accountabilities
As a Junior Biodiversity Consultant, your key accountabilities will include:
- Data Collection and Analysis:
Support the collection and analysis of biodiversity data, including conducting flora, fauna, and vegetation surveys, to evaluate project impacts and pinpoint sensitive habitats. - Impact Assessment:
Assist senior team members in undertaking comprehensive biodiversity baseline impact assessments for industrial projects according to EU Directives and international stardards, utilising established methodologies and tools to ensure robust results. - Mitigation Measures:
Collaborate in the development and implementation of effective mitigation measures aimed at minimising adverse effects on biodiversity. These may include habitat restoration, species conservation efforts and comprehensive ecosystem management strategies. - Biodiversity Compensation Studies:
Participate in studies to identify suitable compensation measures for biodiversity loss or damage resulting from project activities. - Biodiversity Enhancement Studies:
Engage in initiatives focused on enhancing biodiversity within project sites or surrounding areas, working on habitat enhancement, revegetation and wildlife monitoring programs. - Due Diligence Support:
Aid in assessing projects against biodiversity performance requirements through due diligence evaluations, which include assisting in data collection and thorough analysis. - Documentation and Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of detailed reports, presentations, and documentation summarising biodiversity assessments, reduction strategies, and compliance efforts for both internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
Education
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biology or a related field is required for this position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of biodiversity conservation principles, ecological systems, and relevant environmental regulations, coupled with a strong enthusiasm for leveraging this knowledge in industrial settings.
- A foundational understanding of biodiversity assessment methods, familiarity with GIS software, and basic proficiency in statistical analysis tools are essential, along with a keen willingness to learn and improve technical skills. #LI-AU5
