RINA is currently recruiting for a Italy Stability Plan Approval Senior Engineer to join its office in Genova, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

This role focuses on performing detailed plan and design reviews, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met

Projects could include the approval of new building, conversion, and existing vessels and yachts. #LI-DC2

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve loadline assignments, intact & damage stability booklets, loading computer and ballast water management plan, in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations, for new buildings, ships in service, and ship’s conversions.
  • Providing guidance and support related to load line, stability, loading computer and ballast water management plan matters.
  • Assess complex ship stability verification, proactive for problem solving and oriented to results.
  • Calculation with NAPA and other stability softwares.
  • Knowledge of stability criteria set by IACS and IMO Conventions and Codes (e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL, IBC Code, etc.).
  • Experiences on stability verifications for different types of ships.
  • According to manager assignment, project management tasks and serving as reference to clients to avoid escalation of issues.
  • Attitude of teamworking and activities related to new stability criteria.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in ship stability, design, or marine operations, with a focus on stability plan approvals and regulatory compliance.
- Significant experience working with stability software tools and conducting ship stability assessments.
- Proven experience in reviewing and approving stability plans for new and existing vessels, including assessing compliance with international regulations such as SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), MARPOL (Marine Pollution), and other class society rules.
- Hands-on involvement in evaluating load-line calculations, intact stability, damage stability, and operational stability for a wide range of vessels (e.g., cargo ships, tankers, passenger vessels).
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of ship stability principles, including metacentric height (GM), trim, stability curves, and the impact of damage on stability.
- Expertise in stability analysis software (e.g., Maxsurf, Stability software, NAPA, etc.) to carry out stability assessments and review stability documentation.
- Ability to review and approve complex stability calculations, load line assessments, and stability booklets.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory standards (IMO, SOLAS, local/national regulations) and the ability to ensure compliance with these regulations during plan approval processes.
