RINA is currently recruiting for a Italy Junior Safety Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Genova, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
Mission
The Junior Safety Plan Approval Engineer supports the team in the review of safety-related plans and documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable maritime safety standards and client requirements. The role contributes to technical analyses and supports the resolution of minor design issues under the supervision of senior engineers.
Projects may include newbuildings, conversions, and vessels in service, including ships, yachts, and offshore units. #LI-MP3
Key Accountabilities
'Safety Plan Review & Compliance Support
- Support the review of drawings and documentation related to: Fire protection systems, Life-saving appliance and Safety arrangements and emergency systems
- Assist in verifying compliance with: Classification Society Rules, Statutory Regulations and International Conventions (SOLAS, ISM, IMO, MARPOL)
Design & Construction Phase Assistance
- Provide technical support to clients during design and construction phases on safety, fire protection, and lifesaving equipment matters.
- Support the identification of minor non-conformities and design inconsistencies in safety arrangements.
- Assist in the implementation and verification of approved safety solutions on vessels.
Documentation & Technical Deliverables
- Collect technical data and information related to safety plan approval activities.
- Assist in the preparation of:Technical reports, Safety assessments and Engineering drawings.
Project progress documentation
- Support documentation submission to authorities and classification bodies.
Site Activities & Inspections Support
- Participate in site visits, inspections, and measurements under supervision.
- Support on-site safety verifications and reporting of observations.
Project Coordination & Task Management
- Support the monitoring of technical and financial progress of assigned tasks.
- Apply basic project management principles to manage assigned simple activities.
- Provide feedback to the Project Manager and support issue escalation.
Risk Assessment & Safety Analysis Support
- Assist in conducting basic safety assessments and risk evaluations.
- Support the review of safety documentation and recommend minor improvements under guidance.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
- Support communication with contractors and shipyards on behalf of senior engineers.
- Act as a liaison between engineering and construction teams to support effective information flow.
Qualifications
'- 0–2 years of experience in maritime safety, safety plan evaluation, or safety-related projects.
- Internships in classification societies, shipyards, or maritime consultancies are a plus.
- Basic knowledge of maritime safety regulations: SOLAS, ISM Code, IMO & MARPOL
- Familiarity with shipboard safety systems: Fire detection and suppression systems, Life-saving appliances and Emergency evacuation procedures
- Basic understanding of safety audit and inspection processes.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
- Willingness to learn and work under supervision
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work in a structured and team-oriented environment
- Time management and prioritization skills
