RINA is currently recruiting for a Internship- Structural Engineer to join its office in Genova within the Civil Engineering Division.
Mission
This internship is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in structural engineering, focusing on the design, analysis, and evaluation of buildings. Interns will participate in drafting technical drawings, conducting site inspections, learning to use standard engineering software, and collaborating with senior engineers on real-world projects. The primary objectives are to enhance technical skills, gain familiarity with professional standards, and apply classroom knowledge to practical situations, ultimately preparing interns for a successful career in structural engineering.

Key Accountabilities
During the internship period, the main objectives will be:
- Improve practical skills in designing innovative solutions by working on real projects and actively collaborating with the team.
- Critically analyze the processes and methodologies used, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
- Accurately document activities performed, results achieved, and proposed solutions, encouraging the sharing of acquired knowledge.
- Learn industry tools and software, with the aim of integrating technical and theoretical skills.
Material Selection & Technical Evaluation:
- Select appropriate construction materials based on mechanical properties, cost, and sustainability.
- Assess material performance in relation to load-bearing capacity and durability requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Permitting:
- ensure designs meet building regulations and local codes.
- Maintain awareness of evolving standards and best practices in structural engineering.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with RINA’s Quality Management System (QMS) and the company’s Quality Policy.
Quality & Process Compliance
- Attend training sessions on the latest industry practices and emerging technologies.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, share insights, and receive feedback from supervisors.
- Network with professionals in the field to build industry connections and learn from their experiences.
- Present findings and project results to peers and mentors to develop communication and presentation skills.
Education
Qualifications
Technical Skills:
-
understanding of structural engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, and material behavior.

performing structural calculations related to loads, pressures, and stresses with supervision.

Demonstrated ability to develop structural models using industry-standard tools (e.g., SAP2000, 3MURI, Pro_sap, Sismicad, or similar).

knowledge of construction materials (concrete, steel, timber, etc.) and their structural applications.

Familiarity with international and local building codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, ACI, AISC, or similar).

Capable of preparing and reviewing technical drawings, specifications, calculation reports.
Project & Communication Skills:

Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, presentations, and documentation.
