RINA is currently recruiting for a Internship - Junior Bridge Engineer to join its office in Genoa within the Civil Engineering Division.​

Mission

The role focuses on contributing to the design, analysis, and implementation of bridge projects under the supervision of a Bridge Engineer or Senior Bridge Engineer. The role involves applying engineering principles to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of bridges within infrastructure projects.

Key Accountabilities

Bridge Design and Analysis:

  • Support engineers or senior engineers in the design and analysis of bridge structures, considering factors such as load-bearing capacity, materials selection, and environmental impact;
  • utilize engineering software and tools to assist in modeling and simulating bridge behavior under different conditions.

Project Planning:

  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers or senior engineers to contribute to the development of comprehensive plans for bridge projects;
  • provide assistance in estimating timelines, resource requirements, and budget considerations for bridge projects.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assist in ensuring that bridge designs and construction comply with local, state, and national codes and regulations;
  • stay updated on changes in standards and assist in implementing necessary updates to ensure compliance.

Structural Assessments:

  • Participate in inspections and assessments of existing bridges to evaluate structural integrity and identify maintenance or rehabilitation needs;
  • contribute to recommendations for repairs or upgrades based on assessment findings.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with architects, geotechnical engineers, and construction teams to integrate bridge designs into overall infrastructure projects;
  • assist in coordinating with government agencies, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.

Construction Oversight:

  • Support engineers or senior engineers in monitoring construction activities to ensure adherence to approved designs and engineering specifications;
  • assist in addressing any unforeseen issues or challenges that arise during the construction phase.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of design plans, assessments, and construction activities;
  • assist in preparing comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders, summarizing project progress and outcomes. #LI-RD1 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering General

Qualifications

  • Knowledge in structural analysis and design software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, or similar tools;
  • ability to utilize engineering software for modeling and simulating bridge behavior under various conditions;
  • strong understanding of engineering principles related to bridge design, analysis, and materials selection;
  • ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers or senior engineers to contribute to the development of comprehensive plans for bridge projects;
  • aptitude for assisting in estimating timelines, resource requirements, and budget considerations for bridge projects;
  • understanding of local, state, and national codes and regulations governing bridge design and construction;
  • capability to participate in inspections and assessments of existing bridges to evaluate structural integrity and identify maintenance or rehabilitation needs;
  • previous internship or co-op experience in bridge engineering or related field is preferred but not required.

Compensation Data

The internship is designed as a training and orientation experience and, as such, provides a monthly allowance in accordance with applicable regional regulations and Company policies.
